One door closes; another opens.
At 41 years, 4 months of age, I have completed my first college degree, a 2-yr Associates of Art transfer degree. The pissed-off teen who left HS barely holding a diploma, with a 1.89GPA is now happy to admit that being a student...ain't so hard or so bad. I finished the term 3.6GPA with a 3.42 GPA overall, just shy of magna cum laude. Rather strange feeling, to be frank about it.
I begin classes at University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in January, in the college of Broadcast Journalism to complete my bachelor's studies.
Once completed, I hope to have a skills-set that will allow me to make a great living working production in television/radio/film; fine art will be what I do on my own dime, rather than attempt to do it for a living. I think I made a wise decision.

Congratulations, Craig. It took me a few years to get focus on my own aspirations back in my late twenties, so to see you persevere and look to the future in this way really makes me proud of you.

Very impressive, CE. You did it, in spite of everything else going on in your life, and in addition to everything else you accomplished, you persevered. I have to say I admire you greatly for doing so.

I got a BA at age 47, 30 years after leaving high school. I didn't do it with honors, but did get the job I was seeking as an art teacher in a public high school. My major was psychology, but fortunately in the 1970s, MA didn't require a bachelor degree major for the classes you taught.
But, Craig, you had much more on your plate and your scholastic ability and perserverance deserves three cheers, "Hip! Hip! Hooray!" --with my hat waved high.

Congratulations Craig, We be proud of you !
From the 8th grade drop out-RHB { blame any misspelled words on spell check}
Shades of my wife's journey on the road to higher education. She dropped out after her 10th grade on the Pine Ridge Rez{S.Dak} boarding school, had 5 kids, ended up a single mom,by choice. Went on welfare and took advantage of the WIN program. Then she took her GED test and past it well,went to typing school and became a secretary. She was the secretary for the Eastern Washington Office of the Governor {Dixie Lee Ray}. Then she worked for the Eastern State Hospital and the Washington State Patrol as District Sec. She was a high as she go with the Patrol job and all the kids were gone from home so she decided to go back to school. 5 years later, at the age of 52 she had a Masters Degree in sociology. She has been a CPS worker, supervisor for the Indian Child Welfare unit, diversity liaison for DSHS. For me, it was 3+million{accident free} miles following that yellow line. I did get my GED while in the Army, but took a few years of night classes to do it. Proud of you Craig

Ron - our messages crossed in the ether.
3M miles without an accident--especially driving those Northern routes!--is a triumph in a class of its own...this, from a guy with some drive-for-pay experience under his belt.
