Firefox - make it default browser. Apply the following settings:

First two shots are of forms and password info options. I do not allow either of these to remember information. You may wish to follow suit.

Downloaded files settings.

Cookies settings - I allow them from the originating server only and force delete on program termination.

I do not allow cache to grow.

Advanced settings tab.

Once you select Block Pop-Ups, you can state which sites may override the block.

Similarly, you can indicate exactly which options to allow for javascripting.

Good tips - I am an early Firefox (Firebird) adopter, having first run it in UNIX.

Me too. I deleted all IE references and use it only to perform criticals.

The boxes look different - I'm using the latest Firefox 1.5 update. Anyway, very good tips. I do about the same.

What is that Adblock filterplus G? Never seen it before.

No problem.

Ooh, excellent. I wasn't aware there was a better adblock plug-in out there. I've been using the standard one. Thanks!

Privoxy is good too, but you need to be semi-technically literate, and can be tailored per site to block ads and most nasties.

Overall, I still prefer Opera, even though I'm using FF at the moment.  If you have a marginal machine, Opera is quicker.

Favourite firefox extension: Session Saver

I used Opera for years on slower machines. It worked really well. A lot of the coolest features in Firefox were available several years earlier in Opera.

I use Firefox pretty much all the time now. I needed my browser to play nice with some specialized software, which Firefox does. I agree about Session Saver. (Again, a feature that Opera had years ago.)

I've got my parents and in-laws all using various Mozilla products now. Makes it much easier for me to do tech-support when they're not using Outlook!
