Last weekend at a camera show I purchased three rolls of Kodak 1000 ISO, B&W 120 film.  What I want to know is what is the best way to use/abuse this film to generate the most interesting results.  I was planning on using a roll of it in my Holga, to see what I get, but other than that my imagination gives out.  Any tips?

Is it C-41??  Is this the 120 verison of the old Kodak Royal 1000?

I used to use the Royal stuff.  Grainy and flat color, IIRC.

I think the Holga will be PERFECT for it.  I bet you could get some great results with the color flash as well.

I can't wait to see your results.

It's B&W, but I don't know if it can be developed in colour chemicals.  I can't find any info on this film on the interwebs, so I'm in the dark here.

Unfortunately, all my Holgas are the non-flash type, and I sold my Vivitar tower flash, so unless I have a flash hanging around somewhere, I can't use a flash for effect.  I could always use a flashlight I suppose, maybe do some light painting or something.  Whenever I get around to testing this film out, I will post any results.

1000 speed B&W? Hmmmm, I'm unfamiliar with that one. Is it of recent vintage? It's way too fast for ye Holga. If it's still good, I suspect all you will get is black pictures. You might make it work with a red 25 filter stuck over it's eyeball. That would bring it down to the neighborhood of ISO 320 or so. Still awfully fast for Holga in sunlight. You might get by, by pulling back on development.  Developed in Rodinal 1:25, it ought to give grain the size of rocks. Cheesy You could use it at night with time exposure or multiple clicks, or use a flash that has an automatic setting, set for ISO 800. For flash work, Holga's aperture is f/8. Supposedly.  Sounds like fun to me. :2yippee:

does is actually say it's B&W film?

This link here lays out all of Kodak's film and their respective codes.  The only ISO 1000 film I see are C-41 or E-6 film.

I had planned on using the film in my Holga, but only at night time, figuring 1000 was fast enough!  And I had planned on timed exposures and/or several clicks per frame.

And, I was wrong about this film being B&W, it is indeed Kodak PMZ 1000 Professional Colour film.  I don't know why the seller said it was B&W and why I didn't check, but it was sold by the roll and I didn't really look at the wrapper, but it doesn't matter, I prefer colour film in the Holga anyway and it was only $1.00 a roll.  It is expired, but should be okay to use.

the list says they stopped making it in '95 so I"m sure you are in the good.

Some nice photos with it if you go to Flickr and look up PMZ.

I think the Holga will be a nice combo but like was suggested before, just beware of your exposure.
