Here is a pinhole portait of my grand-daugher (previously unpublished for good reason) done with my Zed 2000.  Exposure was about 1 second on a tripod.  I'll try to come up with something nicer sometime soon.

Wow, the wide angle effect is awesome. Nice. Got a picture of the offending device?

The chronicle of the camera's development was posted on the Brand-X site:
http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00Cn9Z.
I had previously converted a box camera to pinhole which worked ok, but it didn't give me the look I was hoping for.  The Zed 2000 (aka: Agfa Billy Record) has a pinhole-to-film distance of about 38mm and about a 140 deg. field of view on the 6x9 frame.  I think some of the distortion at the edges is due to spreading out the image over a flat plane rather than to the wide-angle view of the aperture.

Anyone thinking about converting an old camera to pinhole use should be encouraged by my example because I'm pretty much of a klutz when it comes to such things.  The Billy Record is a good choice for such a project because it is well constructed, and the depth of the lens mount in the shutter is shallow enough to avoid vignetting if the pinhole is placed just in front of the shutter blades.  Of course, one can avoid that issue by just using a flap shutter, but bright light exposures are short, and a real shutter offers some advantage.  It has been a very rewarding project for me and a logical step (backward) from my interest in old cameras.  Pictures made with the camera are at http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=508477; the four at the bottom of the page are done with the pinhole-modified box camera.

Very nice! I have been following your pinhole posts. You seem to have it perfected. Your  latest pics are as sharp as a lot of lenses. I just took my first shot with my newly built 4X5 pinhole camera. It shows real promise and if I can figger out how to post the image, I will.

I'm looking forward to seeing that image, Glenn.  I usually post my pictures in a photo.net folder, and then I can display them here by copying and pasting the url from pnet.  After that, I highlight the address and click the above "Img" button to create the link in the message to the image.  Give it a try; I'm sure there will be plenty of help available if you run into problems.

This is going to be another new experience because I've never tried to post images this way. I had forgotten that my isp provides web space up to a limited size as part of their service. If I were to set up a web page there, would I be able to move the photos to here in the same fashion? I could also provide a link, yes?

It's actually quite a bit easier to post images from another site on this forum than in pnet once you get used to the system.  No reason why it should not work from your ISP as I have done that here with several images.

Glenn, you do not even have to build a web page. Essentially, you upload the images to your directory, then paste the URL into the thread.

Now, depending on who your host is, this can be a bit tricky. You will need to have a method for uploading. Prior to that you will have to have a method from processing your images to a web-ready point. I assume you have the latter. The former is probably accomplished via a web-upload feature in your ISP's account management panel. You should contact your ISP for assistance.

Odds are high that your ISP offers little in the way of web space or assistance in using same. I think my Cox account comes with 5 megs per each e-mail address I establish, and I get up to 7 e-mails, so that's a total of 35 megs of web storage. That's more than enough for the average poster. However, to use that space, I would have to be logging in regularly to all 7 accounts - a pain in the arse. Not gonna do it.

If you have any specific questions, please post them and I or someone else will help as best we can.

Glenn, someone recommended me photobucket.com -- it is very simple to upload and it gives you the text to insert in the message here, below the image!

if you do not have your own space or it gets complicated, try it.

OK, I have looked into photobucket and have opened an account. I have uploaded two images, no problem. Now comes the part I don't understand. How do I get the images from there to here? It lists the URL and a bunch of other junk under each image but I am totally in the dark as to how to use it. Help????

Glenn, go to your photobucket stuff, get the URL for the image - copy it, paste it into your message here, highlight it once you have it pasted, the press ALT and P at the same time. That's all.
