just returned from a week-long field trip to edmonton and banff, and want to try my hand at making a few digital panoramas.   the last time i tried this, i used an application called "hugin" that seemed to do the trick.  however, would anyone out there recommend something newer, faster, brighter, higher (and free) to do the job?

Google for Microsoft Ice. I found it a about a week ago and so far it has worked pretty well.
Free too.

The latest versions of Hugin are very good.

If you want something commercial (trial is available), you may want to try Autopano Pro.

Both are capable of stitching panoramas with 100+ images.
