On Sunday, Dec 6, 2009, Grizz met James McK and Dennis Gallus for a photo shoot at Harpers Ferry. The occasion was a re-enactment of Christmas of 1864, when Union troops occupied the town. The area had received about six inches of fluffy snow the day before, so Harpers Ferry looked beautiful. Temperatures in the 25F region definitely decreased the number of re-enactors present for the occasion, but we had a good time anyway. Vital RR bridge to/from Harpers Ferry (35mm/2.8 Zuiko) Town square during Union Army occupation, 1864 (100mm/2.8 Zuiko) US Marine, ca. 1864 (100mm/2.8 Zuiko) US Army, ca. 1864 (100mm/2.8 Zuiko, a sharp lens) James McK, ca. 2009 (100mm/2.8 Zuiko) Our trio: Grizz, Dennis & James (35-70 Zuiko) All photos on Fujicolor 100 film. I hope that James and Grizz will add their photos soon. Thanks for viewing, Dennis

Wow, nice shots. The Army guy is just great. How did you get the face lit with that lighting? Darn near looks like a studio shot to me . Here is one from my set. I have not developed the film yet but did upload the digital shots. I tweaked the sky on this one and did not blend it well but I'll give it a better looksy tomorrow. This was from the other side of the tracks along the river...Grizz.

Harpers Ferry, well, well, I've read about it but never seen it before -especially at 25 degrees F !!. You guys were very brave. They are all great shots. Dennis, that one with the (un)covered wagon and tent in the foreground is very good. James looks like he had a serious weapon on top of that monopod, and Grizz looks suitably grizzly ;-) Grizz btw, I liked that perspective shot of the rail sweeping past the building on the rise.
Do you guys realise that it's getting over 35C over here!!!

Thanks, I did do some cropping on that shot but it was at 20mm on a 1.3 crop so a nice wide view. By the way I am the one with the monopod. James is on the other side of Dennis. That weapon is a Canon 1D classic with 17~40. I switched between that and my F3. It was chilly but I had a backpack full of stuff and my big behind heats up pretty quick walking around

Nice get together, guys. Great results, both. I haven't gotten film developed yet, but will do this week. In the meantime, here's a digital shot of the vintage Santa in residence. James

Here is another from the 1D. Kinda interesting. He was busy and really taking this shot so all I did was ask him if it was ok to shot them. I did not get any info on his setup. Maybe Dennis or James did since I had to leave early. I wanted to crop the top section with the sign part but I was interested in the light panels in the roof. Guessing it is his primitive lighting system . I know he could use it because I had to bump the exposure on the subject in lightroom to get this. I was at 1/250 f/5.6. Guessing he was over a second???

Grizz,
You captured a neat moment there. James and I looked at the camera briefly, but the photographer wasn't there at the time.
James,
Santa confirmed to us verbally that he was a mischievous sort. I bet that he'd get a kick out of having a copy of your photo.
I hope to see more pictures from both of you. I had a good time that day, the snow really added to the photos.

James,
Good shots all. I'm happy that you included the shot of the little house, I almost did that myself.
I'll verify that the "Union troops" around the campfire were geeking out about computers. Re-enactors are really an interesting group of people.

Bravo, all of you! Thanks for an interesting and entertaining post. Dennis, you do those Zuiko lenses proud, and I see that James is becomimg a Zuikoholic as well. Pity there is such a large pond between London and harper's Ferry - or I would have joined you.
