Thanks to a Brazilian photog (Flavio S.), a work around has now been installed, and my SD 4 is up and running. The inet is truly amazing.
Paul, After some research, I decided that running XP on a "virtual machine" was too spooky for me. My computer skills are nil.

Jorn,
I am so computer illiterate that it is scary. I can cut and paste (I think) the procedure and post it. However, it is a fairly lengthy document. As for how it works, it is so far over my head that it is out of sight. It involves creating a text file inside a folder. You open some of the scanner dialog and modify it. See, I warned you! Probably, anyone semi-competent with a computer would have no troubles understanding and making the mods. If I knew how to do it, a zip file would take up less room. What are your thoughts on this?

Sounds like someone knows how to edit the driver or similar to make it work in Windows 7. We'll just make you the Conduit. Anyone who wants to know the secret needs to contact you, and you can connect them to Flavio. If they are worthy.

I saved the process on notepads and they have fairly clear instructions. I can attach the instructions to an email. If I can stumble thru it, anyone can.

I think this also works with Vista.

I'd be interested in knowing how to do this.  A friend has a SD IV that I'm going to borrow.  I have an XP machine for doing this (and connecting to my Canon S30 - that Vista doesn't see), but my Vista machine is so much faster it'd be nice to stick with it.

thanks,
Bill
