Castle Lager - This is the beer that all South Africans believe to be the best beer in the world - until and unless they visit another place in the world!  If you are going there for the World Cup soccer, be prepared to drink lots of the stuff - allways chilled, somewhat dry, never sweet.

More beer shots as promised…

The Carlsberg Factory in Denmark:

Train travel German style:

My wife is a classy woman…

We had been lost in the Black Forest for a while earlier that day, so she probably deserved to soak her feet and have a beer.

And a label that I saved from Tanzania:

It’s Kili time! Time to kick back, relax and take it easy with your friends…

Cheers!

Brought this back from a trip to Brazil, as a souvenir. Very traditional label there.

These were all shot with a super-old Sony Mavica that takes a floppy disk, so the image quality ain't that great, but I wanted to show some of the wonderful beers of Texas...and believe it or not, many of them are brewed all in the same place: a little town called Shiner.

Here are 6 of their most popular brands, all together in one "Family Reunion"

Kosmos Spoetzl was the original brewmaster of Shiner Brands.

The neat thing was, I shot these pics right after getting the beer home, so it had already had a chance to start sweating.

...and I saved the best for last.  This Black Lager brand is in a Coke glass because we've packed up all my beer glasses in prep for our move next week -- but really, it's fitting that it's in a Coke glass, because it's as dark as Coke, and you can't see thru the liquid, even with the sun shining directly onto it.  Great stuff!  Ausgezeichnet, and Prosit!

Wayne,

When I saw your photo of Carlsberg factory, I flashed back to 1955 and my student year in Copenhagen. My favorite two Danish beers were Carlsberg and Tuborg, but they made two qualities: domestic and export. The exports were much better.

When they started to sell Carlsberg Export in America I was so happy, but it was so much better in Denmark. Then I found out an American beer company was making it under license. Guess different water and hops changed the taste markedly.

I didn't save beer labels, but I did start a small collection of beer coasters that I took from bars in my European travels. Here is one of them.

The Stuttgarter Haufbrau coaster's headline in English is: " Another beer for the man at the piano."

I'll let Kalle (martolod) translate the reverse side of the coaster, if folks are interested to learn why the indigenous redtail bird, that migrates to Africa, is on the beer coaster. I'd mess it up

Added note: Thanks Kalle!

les - dun and dusted...
in short it sez

'we brew 'green' enviromentally friendly beer by using methods that don't harm these birds.'

there is a longer more detailed translation, but ........
