....I got all this leatherette, see?  Just figured I put up a few pics and add another thread to the forum.

This first one is a 1960 Anscoset.  Nuttin' worked on it when I laid my 99 cents down.  Everythings going now and it has new leather.  It's quickly becoming (yet another) favorite.

The next two are spec jobs for prospective buyers.  I love Yashica TLRs, and getting one running again, and gussied up a bit is fun for me.  And I had all this leather in party colors....

Last one (for today).

Sweet dreams all.   G'nite.

Circus Cameras? Is that a blanket catagory? I wonder if these qualify?

Got these covers from Akihiro Asahi.

That Minolta is very cool - where did you come by that leatherette?

The Yashicas remind me of the Hasselblad limited edition cameras... Only seen one in vibrant yellow but it sure was funky shtuff. Smiley

The Minolta reminds me of a 70's movie about pimps in Hollywood for some reason...  Cheesy

But I'd love to do some refinishing of my Spotmatic, thinking of going the cheap way with http://www.aki-asahi.com/store/

I got the leather for the Yashicas and the Anscoset from Morgan Sparks at http://www.cameraleather.com/.  I buy it in sheets and cut it using templates I've made.  He has a number of ready cut adhesive backed kits for all kinds of cameras, if you don't want to cut your own.  Anything from standard black leatherette, to pink Amazon lizard.
I'm thinking about a nice banana yellow for my Retina II.  Well, maybe.

Dean, you have quite a hand there... I might have to hire you at some point.

Randy, thanks for sharing your Minny beauts. I am absolutely in love with my Minolta gear.

It's kinda fun.  Seeing the result makes all the cutting worth it.  Most cameras don't have too many small wierd shapes, and cutting large oddball shapes isn't very difficult.  Cutting for the Argus logo on the front of this C-Four was a stinker, though.

The customer liked it enough that he's sending me another one for repair and a dress up.  I'm thinking green.  I'll send him a shot of the Yashica C and see what he says.   Then he can use them at Christmas, as cameras, or orniments on the tree. Smiley

The nastiest thing I've ever cut was the front for a Yashica D. Probably child's play for someone who knows what they're doing, but it was my first time. Anyway, here's a hint that worked well for me. I have a CAD program (Visual Cadd, though anything should work), and a printer. I measured and drew the proposed leatherette outline in CADD, then printed it on paper at 1:1. Cut it out and tried it. Went back and modified the drawing. Repeat. A lot! When I was happy with the template, I printed one more and stuck it to the covering with double stick tape. Cut this one with a sharp X-acto knife. For cameras where I've needed a fix, but didn't want to go for real leatherette, I've used textured vinyl from various notebooks found at the office supply store.

Thanks for the kind comments on my Minoltas. I'm also a Trekkie, and the SR-1s reminds me of the BORG. I call it SR1S of BORG. lol
I got the leather for these two from Aki Asahi in Japan. His prices are very affordable, I paid like 12 bucks apiece. I've also purchased leather from Morgan Sparks at CAMERALEATHER.COM, although his pre-cut sets are kinda pricey. You can see many more examples of my 'circus cameras' over at my message board THE CAMERA COLLECTOR.

I've never used the die cut kits that Morgan Sparks sells, but the black leatherette for 35mm cameras is only $10 and a TLR kit $14.50.  The colored sheets I buy from him are only $8 for a 9x12 in. sheet for red, blue or green.
Two sheets will do 3 TLRs.  That's pretty cheap, at less than $6 per camera.

I kinda like cameras with reptiles on them. Did these ones myself, I use Duck brand weather proofing double sided tape. (my Wife's idea) I got the Sea Snakes and Lizard Skins from 'Uncle' George Duross of Partners Leather.

Figured C.E. would like my Minolta XGSE.
