Just a few recent shots that I thought were worth sharing. All shot with a Canon FTbN & 50/1.8 S.C.

Thanks,

William

Thank you, all,  for the kind words. I feel like I'm making  some progress with my landscapes in finding a way to speak that language that's my own and not just a pastiche of bad copies of Ansel Adams or David Plowden. It's a slow but enjoyable process.

They're all great, but #3 is spectacular!

That's in a small park where a tree was blown down in a storm some time ago. Why it wasn't ever cleared away, I don't know, but every so often I go and work it. For that shot I laid down & opened the lens up all the way and had just enough shutter speed Smiley I hoped the DOF effects would play nice like that and I wasn't disappointed.

If you trim from the top all the sky space until the tree top, then the last photo would look to me even better. The removed sky space would make you focus more on the road in the far right of the image.

Raid, I can see where you're going. OTOH, I composed it with that much empty space because that was how the view struck me that day. Pure blue skies with almost no clouds and just a feeling of, not lonelyness, but  a good kind of feeling alone where that tree off in the distance is your only neighbor. One you can talk to, if you want, but also one who will just let you be.

The same trees from another angle last spring:

I'm looking forward to seeing them in fall color.

Hope this makes some sense.

Thank you for your thoughts, Raid. It's helpful, for me, to know what others see in an image as well. I do intend to work that location again and now I've got a bug in my mind about another way to try looking at it when I get there. That's always a good thing Smiley

I bet that corn is brown and ready to pick now... I wonder how it looks today?

Nice ones, William.  I like the first one, and the color one of the corn/tree/road best.

I really like the first and last shots.

I think simplifying your equipment (even if only for a while) can really help you to start "seeing".  When you go back over these images in a year or so's time, I'm sure you'll see a sort of progression as you become more comfortable and confident with your own vision.

#2 does a good job handling the light in a tricky situation. You get the texture of the tree bark very nicely.

What's this about a new scanner? I've been away a bit and may have missed it.
