I was gifted a Viewmaster personal stereo camera, and it seems to be broken. Anyone have experience with these? There is an online repair manual but it didn't seem to touch on my problem.

Basically, the film winding mechanism is not cocking the shutter. It locks at 1 rotation as if the shutter should be cocked, but will not release the lock, and the shutter is not cocked. I can manually cock the shutter by removing the bottomplate of the camera and messing with what's called the Hourglass something or other, but once you trip the shutter you're back to square one.

Alternatively, does anyone out there work on these?

Wouldn't be one of those cameras like the Voigtlanders that you had to have film in them for the shutter to operate, would it?

DOH! I think you may be right there as I bet it was just re-badged.

Ha, doubt Voigtlander ever made something as well-crafted as this! Snarky snark snark.

I did try it with and without film. Been fooled by that before.
