If it's below zero outside (last night it was -7 F in ABQ, -35 F in Moriarity 40 miles to the east), is it really necessary to take my film out of the freezer to warm up when it's actually warmer in the freezer than out side of it?

Depends on how long you have it in the house and if your camera was in the house or the car.

Brian- wow! I hard about the ABQ weather. Insane!
The coldest I ever did serious photography was in Loveland Pass in the Rockies outside of Denver. I was shooting a ski wear catalog and using Hassy's. They were freezing up. I had to keep one thawing in the van and then switch, when the one I was using froze up. It must have been near 0ºF with three feet of snow on the ground. Brutal.
Good luck shooting in that weather. Look forward to your pix.
From balmy Portland...

Thanks Major. I'm thinking of going out tomorrow since the Govenor has given us a day off. Seems like the idiots in Texas can't deliver enough natural gas to NM so a large part of the state is experiencing gas shortages.
Larry, it's not a serious question. Just a thought I had when I realized it was colder outside than in the freezer. Just doesn't make sense to warm up the film and THEN go out in sub zero weather.

No snow at this very moment. As they say here in Florida- if you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes and it'll change. Right as rain today. Kinda puts a damper on the concert at Silver Springs, though

Even if you weren't serious, it does make one wonder- do I have a purely mechanical camera that will work in that cold, and could I operate it with gloves on... and why?
