For you Vuescanners: The latest revision,9.0.17, was released yesterday, 4Feb. For my old Scan Dual IV it is a huge improvement. I am going to try it on my V500 now. EpsonScan worked better on the V500, so it will be interesting to see what the revision will do for it.

Gerry, what improvements have you noticed with the Scan Dual IV, using Vuescan, over its performance out of the box with the KM  software?

I ask because I'm just now getting into scanning - and am using a Scan Dual IV.  I am using the software that came with it - which I'm finding ok; however I find that I'm getting a fair bit of noise - especially in the shadows.  This is even when I use the 4x sampling.  Is this your experience?  If so, do you do noise reduction in another piece of software (or does Vuescan do this?).  I have PS Elements 5.0 - which I find rather non-intuitive - and Corel Paint Shop Pro PHOTO X2 (though I've yet to install it).

I'm just reading through some older threads/posts on the KM SD.

thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,
The first thing I noticed, after the revision, was cleaner scans from the SD IV. I haven't really dug into it for printing quality yet. When I upgraded (Huh) to W7, the patch to make the SD IV work was not reliable for me. That is when I bought the Professional (not that I am!) version of Vuescan. Interestingly, the update didn't seem to offer any improvement in the med frmt scanning on my V500.

Thanks Gerry.  It might be worth trying - for $40.

So did you go back to WinXP - or did the 'Professional' version fix the issues?  You had sent me the info for using the SD IV with Vista/Win7; I haven't tried it yet, as I still have an XP machine (slooow) that I use for scanning.

As for the V500 - it's definitely on my radar; by most accounts it's a good deal - though I'd swing a V700/V750 if I could, for the ability to batch scan more negs (I have a lot; the price difference between the two is huge - but everyone's time is valuable), and do larger formats.

cheers!
Bill

Thanks for that info. I was still hesitating between Vuescan and Silverfast. I'm pretty much decided now to order the Vuescan, as I liked the interface better (I downloaded a trial version of both).
I also intend to replace my 'oldish' desktop computer by a faster one soon. I'm running XP Pro now and I fear that my scanners will not be able to communicate with Win7.
Like Gerry mentioned in his earlier thread, I also have the KM Dimage ScanDual IV and also an old Epson Perfection 1240U flatbed scanner (with photo unit) running on Epson/Twain. I want to be able to use both scanners on the new PC. Will the Vuescan software work around the problem of missing Win7 drivers for these 'older' scanners?
Thanks.
Benny

i don't see why it should not work. just run Win7 in XP mode and that should fix the problem.
download the trial version of vuescan and see how you go- it's fully functional so you will be able to tweak and twoke.
i just upgraded to the latest vuescan myself. there is a bit of a learning curve but you'll get the hang of it.
i have been using vuescan for some years now and have as happy as a pig in poo. program works well

Hey I might give this a try. My work flow could use some work... Vuescan looks useful in that regard. Thanks Gerry!
