Ron,

I tried  www.smformat.exe but was unable to download it, however Googling it, I found many people had the same problem with Olympus cameras and sm cards and had similar error messages that I got/get.

I downloaded one  recovery application, but it didn't work or I didn't know how to use it to format my 128MB SM card. But I found by googling www.smformat. Aperson , a man who gave a site for downloading it that works for his SM card that got had same error messages.

"I had the same problem, with a 16 and a 128M cards, and solve this problem, only by reformating the card using the www.smformat.exe  found at this address:
http://www.marshost.com/~rashmun/

I tried downloading it but got a message the site is not available.

If you don't mind, I'd like to mail you my 128MB card along with return postage and ask if you would try your technique to format my card using your recovery software. If you agree, let's swap snail mail addresses by PM

Huge thanks in advance.

Les

Ron,

Thanks a ZILLION, but I don't need to send you my card. As I already wrote you, a miracle has happened and the corrupted SMcard got honest to goodness healed and started working again. I could see an image on the screen, all the functions came back and I was able to format the card properly. It was no sacrifice to lose the 4 test shots I made before reformatting. I was afraid to do any moving of them.

This Oly C400Z is a Phoenix of a camera and it just won't be conquered or let it be chucked away. It's a great picture making machine and hardy as hell, Ooops! sorry Rev. Larry, I meant "hecK." Nah, that doesn't work. I'll take my chances and stick with hell, it's a helluva colorful word.

So a big  THANKS to Mike, James, Jonny, Larry and Ron for your collective responses. I wish you all a great weekend.

I still have a couple of cameras that use the SmartMedia card,a nice FufiFilm Finepix 1400 Zoom which takes outstanding pics for a 1.*mp camera and I also have an Olympus that is a real tank that also takes great pics.I just feels good holding it in your hand.
I also have an 128mb card among others but that big card will last forever in those old cams.
Glad you are up and running again.Ron G
