... even if all you ever take are pictures of your cameras!

Most of us who like to take pics of our cameras often get the short-end of the stick when it comes to appreciation.  As though we have nothing better to take a picture of, other than our own gear.

I once even read someone who chimed that he feels "dirty" taking pictures of his own cameras.  What a ... (well, put your own favorite dumb things in there).

About a month ago, a musician contacted me out of the blue, asking if he can use one of my photographs on his album cover.  He saw the picture on flickr and felt that it just "spoke" to him.

We get to talked and to make a long story short, he agreed to (quite a bit) a sum for that photograph, and I will get a percentage as royalty from his album sale.

And guess what's on the picture, one of my old cameras.  No less, no more.

So, feel free to use this story to stick it to those photo-subject snobs. Smiley

Congrats Will. Many of us call taking pictures of our cameras "Camera Porn."

Good for you, Will.  Now, tell us which camera caught this guy's eye.

I usually include a 'glamour' shot at the end of a repair series Will.  Mostly just to show off, but also to express what I am feeling about the camera at the moment, pride of a job well done.

An example:

Once I get a lighting set-up in a place I can leave it, I plan on giving all my cameras the star treatment.

Will,

When I was active in the Photo Historical Society of New England in the 1980s, part of my job as president was to run the monthly meeting's show and tell and I volunteered to make photos of all the beauties brought in for PHSNE's archives.

I love to show off the extra nice cameras I've had. I compromise it by giving many only half billing, because I've made many, many, dozens of self portrait with these cameras. I aimed at making one for every new (for me) camera.

James, it's a portrait of my old YashicaMat.  I no longer have that camera (it's a beautiful camera, but I am not that impressed with the results from it).  Having been doing Stock photos in the past, I knew that I'd have to remove all branding and other readable copyrighted stuff from the picture.  So I end up doing some photoshop work on the image.

I'll see if I can get a hold of the album when it's out and sold.  I may buy one for keepsake.

They ought to give you one, sort of like getting a tear-sheet from a publisher.  I still have my one-and-only album back cover, and the piece of the photo it was cropped from to match up alongside it.  One day I'll mount them in a frame.

PF, that's neat!
I'd like to see it if you get around to take a pic or scan of it.

Found a good example of dual portraits: Extra nice camera and me.

Bessa-R, Summitar and owner.

With my Boston accent, the title is an example of quadruple rhymes, i.e. a, R, ar, and er all sound like the "ah" requested by a doctor, who has you open your mouth, holds down your tongue with a  wooden suppressor and commands, "Say ah!"
