Larry, did you load it?  I tried loading it but Windows stopped me near the end to "strongly warn" me that the software didn't have some XP-compatible signature; Windows told me I should stop loading it.  Hmmm.  Any idea what the story is on that?

That is Microsoft's equivalent to the sticker you find on a new hammer telling you to wear approved safety goggles when using the hammer. You can pretty safely ignore the (admittedly fairly draconianly-worded) warning for software from reputable sources.

For extra caution, you may wish to do a System Restore manual restore point (a good tutorial on XP's System Restore is at  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html). Run before installing the software; if it causes problems, revert to the manual restore point.

Tadas, thanks for the tips. I know I should know these things, but it's a little like my car -- when my computer acts weird, I ask the geeks to look at it.  I have friends who do all their own car repair and think of me as a total spendthrift. Smiley

Please answer this question using issue #110 of Digital Photographer magazine to claim your license code:

“Who is the author of the masterclass on page 45?”

I don't know, Raid, but it won't do much good.  The question changes every time you go to that site.  They really want you to have that issue of the magazine.

They change things each time, but I just tried, and it said:

That's interesting -- when I downloaded it, they didn't have the magazine questions.  They must have realised they had a chance to increase shop sales.

Except for some non-gear types, I haven't bought a photo magazine in ten years. . . .

There was no question for my download. They emailed me the code.

I kept on guessing the right answer, but I failed.

Has anyone been using this CaptureOne software?  I've just spent a half hour poking around in it.

It reminds me -- in the look -- of the default form of Paint Shop Pro X3 with all its writing in light and background in black.  But it doesn't seem to be anywhere as sophisticated as PSP.  I can't find simple local tools like burn/dodge etc (maybe I get frustrated too easily with icons that don't tell me what they do . . . ).  It looks like most of its tools are global.  (Am I misreading it?)   But I also can't find "curve adjustment" though there's a very clear histogram shown.  It seems to be no more powerful than, say Picasa.   I use Picasa regularly for some stuff and for "finishing" a picture I want to email, but I use PSP regularly, too, for the more basic and finer things, like local adjustments.

Anyone having better luck with it?
