testing new Portra 400

These were shot early July this year or thereabouts.  The Portra 400 is good but I don't see such a great advantage over common old Kodak Gold 400.  Maybe there is a difference in the case of fine Art photos.  However money can probably be saved in the case of day to day shooting.

All these were taken with Nikkors - the one of the surfer having a sleep on the beach was with my trusty old 135mm f3.5 that has been with me forever

but "the lamp" image prove the exellent tonality of the Portra.

Nice, Dan.  I think these are more 'mellow' than Kodak Gold.

Hard to see at Web definitions, but these look like very little grain. Great tones, colors and shots, BTW. I like the last one!

Consumer color negative Kodak in ISO 400 is called "Ultra" down here, a great film.

Thanks Carlos, James and Julio - I am experimenting this weekend with a roll of Fuji Superia 200 ISO in the FM3a with the nikkor P 45mm f2.8

We have just come home from a wedding in a nice little chapel where I was trying to hold f2.8 with that film at 1/15th !!  May the saints be with me - I have very low expectations of the the results.  Focussing was a real pain and there is the inevitable shake in the hands.  Not much margin for error at 2.8 even without those complications.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
