When Kodak designed the VR series, they introduced a couple of features that were innovative, but didn't catch on. One was the ability to interchage batteries from Kodak's custom designed Lithium Pack to a standard 9VDC alkaline. The other was to mount the flash unit on a clamshell door over the lens so that when raised to uncover the lens, it placed the flash at a level that would eliminate most cases of red-eye.
But it's a bulky camera, and the only reason it is light weight for it's size is that this particular model has no motorized film transport.
