I've finally figured out that the drugstore I sometimes get my developing done at dosen't have a lot of quality control. When I got the latest roll processed, I asked for a CD only, but they mistakenly made a set of prints too. The prints look gorgeous, but the scans were not. So, after a bit of fixing the scans, here are some examples from the set on Flickr.

Very nice set, Phil. I am a sucker for old buildings like the store you show. Are you familiar with the work of William Christenberry (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Christenberry)?
He has done photos (and painting & sculpture) featuring structures similar to this seen over periods of many years (
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5613101
). This book
http://www.amazon.com/William-Christenberry-Andy-Grundberg/dp/1931788898/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320954711&sr=1-3
is well worth looking at if you can find a copy.
I guess your drugstore knows what corrections to apply to get decent prints from their marginal scans. Pity that these corrections aren't applied during scanning, rather than after.

Your Sure Shot sure treats you well. And the 400-speed film is good too. Those are lovely pictures. I especially like that tree growing out of the slope down to the water.

James, they just stick the film in the machine, and let 'er rip. Sometimes my scans are in the reverse order of the roll, and upside down. And every once in a while, the machine will chew on the film a bit, so I'll lose a few frames. I'll have to have a talk with one of the more cognizant employees.
And Thank You's to James, Larry, and Philip.
