» A longer review is here. It's been a long time since I wrote about a camera. I had some huge distractions going on. Sort of still do, but with my free time, I'm trying to get back to the basics.
OK, here we go.
I bought this from a guy in Germany, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was for the most part in very good condition. It's a boxy camera with some odd styling.
There is no rangefinder, so it's up to you to make your best guess. The aperture choices are by symbol. There's a conversion chart on the bottom of the camera. The choices are 2.8, 4.8, 8 and 13.5.
I was a bit surprised that it uses the Agfa Rapid cassettes, which also means that it's limited to 12 shots at a time. The metering system (hence, the name "Electra") uses two AA batteries. It's aperture-priority autoexposure, and it seems reasonably accurate.
Film speed is limited to either 50 or 100. I opted for some Agfapan APX100.
The camera was fun to use although slightly painful because of the sharp edges of the camera. As I recall, I took the camera apart to do some cleaning. I removed a couple of screws, and the front was then easily separated from the back. The back door latch needed a spring, which I fashioned from a safety pin.
This little review isn't up to my usual standards. A big haphazard, but I want to write it so I can eat some dessert.
The lens is a triplet, and when shot wide open at close distances, it gives some pretty wild effects.
