I have been riding motorcycles for right at 60 years and believe I have only seen 2 or 3 Vincent's in the flesh in all this time. The first was a Shadow on the showroom floor in 1952,way too rich for my blood, bought a demo Triump Thunderbird instead. Big mistake. The first one looks almost box stock, the only thing that I see out of place is the bar end mirrors. I enjoyed all of them very much, thanks.

Although I'm not a motorcycle man myself, I do have an appreciation for fine machinery. And you can see from the excellent photos the craftsmanship of days gone by.
Those are really some great motorcycles.

I always wanted to ride motorcycles, ever since my Mom wouldn't let me go get ice cream with my Uncle Glen on his Harley. Then, I had an awful day of it many years later while test riding a Yamaha Twin. Kind of took the whole enthusiasm part out of it. Then I either couldn't afford a bike and car at the same time, or just had nowhere to keep it out of the weather. But I admire them none the less, and appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making a fine machine. Great photos, and poetry, Tom.

Sweet rides, all, Tom. I had to look up Richard Thompson, by the way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0kJdrfzjAgThe song has been stuck in my head for several days now. There is a theory that the way to remove a song from your head is to make someone else listen to it, then it is stick in their head. But I don't know if it works by internet. I believe I've posted before there is a guy here in town with a non-running Norton Atlas. Whenever I walk past his house, I have an irrational urge to bang on his door and keep offering him money until he sells it to me. However, I've never been a motorcycle rider, and I suspect that a Norton isn't the most recommended beginner bike. Probably quite safe though, as I'd likely never get it running! If only my wife would let me keep it here in the house, just to admire and polish. Sigh. Len

Glad you liked the photos. A number of people, my sister-in-law included, have felt my "Red Molly" inference was a bit cryptic. My apology goes out to all who were inconvenienced. On the other hand, the cognecenti who knew what I was talking about likely know also that some few years ago a female Bluegrass group decided to name themselves after the song, and have established a respectable reputation as performers. One of the Vincent owner/drivers told me he thought they were very good, but that a 1952 Vincent did not have an ignition key. And there you have the weak reference about poetic license in my original page. Perhaps it's all too complicated to delve into here, but I must add more other non-photographic comments. Back when our founder (Craig) had the time, he frequently put up lists of "Listening to now" song titles. I had no clue as to the individual performers and groups he was referring, and felt "old and in the way". (Did you get that one?). So much so I don't think I ever said a word as an unending series of unknown to me mostly rock music talent was paraded on these pages. But there were many others here who knew of whom he was talking, and contributed their own favorites to the growing list. I felt older still, and more in the way (OK, that's twice-Dead Heads should need no further prompting, and as for the rest of you.....). In the shadow of this mountain of musical minutia, I felt the Red Molly thing was going to be easy. As for me right now, ...."I'm running out of road, and running out of breath....."

Dark, but very good. I'd like to see him in person sometime. Or on TV. My only exposure to him has been on radio and the half-dozen or so albums I have. I've always thought it would be exciting to run a pirate radio station. OK, an alternative radio station. I've come to appreciate the low power FM outlets that have developed in recent years. They might be left-leaning but the mainstream media just scares the b'Jeezuz out of me. That "debate" last night was more proof that there is such a thing as a "stupid" question.
