As promised, some images of the family vacations in Chile. We stayed briefly in Santiago, then went West to Valparaiso, North to La Serena and Elqui Valley.

Trail to the Farallon glacier, near Santiago. It is 17 km long and goes up to above 3000 m. I stopped in the first shadow I could find and waited for the young people to come back.

Valparaiso is an incredible city, full of color. The roof of one house is often the porch to the next house up!

We visited Punta Choros, and a natural reserve in an island, Isla Damas. We saw pelicans, Humbold penguins and also dolphins.

The small town of Pisco Elqui (pop. about 1000) is in the Elqui valley, home of Pisco liquor.

The Elqui valley is a very nice place to relax.

I selected a
slideshow (with 20 pictures)
if you want to see more detail. Took a lot more pictures, but it would be insane to post them all.

Chile is a nice change of pace from Uruguay - much drier weather, very good wine and seafood, and some of the best people in Latin America.

Thanks for looking!

Those photos really document your favorable comments about Chile as a place to visit!  I enjoyed them all, though I couldn't get into the slideshow.  From the format, it seems that you used the Autocord for these photos as well as those in your earlier post?

Thanks, Olypen!  I have changed the settings of the slideshow, hope it shows now. Please let me know.

These were taken with my old digital P&S (Canon A510). The Autocord was for B&W only.

Just beautiful, Julio -- these and the Autocord b/w shown earlier.  I note that you managed a signature boat shot (Punta Choros, in the slideshow).  Just curious how long a trip it was for you from home to Chile.  Thanks for sharing your enviable trip.

Julio, I understand about the stop on the way to the glacier.  Don't know if I would have made it that far.  These are another great set of travel photos, and thank you for sharing them.

The pelican shot is quite striking.

James, Santiago is only 2.5 hours by plane from Montevideo. There are two or three direct flights every day.

Julio - You demonstrate great camera skills with this series - there are some potential award winners here!  I agree, the pelican shot is outstanding.  Thank you for sharing these with us.
