I need a repair person for the Olympus EP-2.
Do you know a reputable repair person?
Thanks.

Raid

P.S. Olympus wants $175 flat fee for any repair.

John Hermanson, who worked for Olympus for years and had his own independent Olympus repair shop until recently, has taken a full-time job. I suspect that means he takes far less Olympus repair work now. He's done work several times for me (though not on anything as new as the E-P2) and it's good.  You might try phoning him.  CamTech (in Huntington, NY) is his commercial name.  His web page is at http://www.zuiko.com/

Good luck with it.

Thank you, Philip.  I will contact him. I will first ask whether they even service digital cameras or not. Their website mentions only film cameras. Maybe nobodyw ants to tackle digital stuff. It could be that I only have Olympus as a repair option.

I will send the camera to Olympus. Electronics are best understood by the manufacturer.

Sorry to hear about your camera. My guess is they may not even repair it but send you a refurbished one they already have. I say this because every time I send in something electronic that is under warranty that is what happens to me.

No, they actually told me on the phone that they will fix it. They did not say that they will replace it somehow with a refurbished camera without my permission. I would not like to be forced to accept another camera.

Yeah, I'd do the same.  Even if there is a minimum of $150 charge. Gulp.

EDIT: $175. Worse.

I think in most cases that it comes down to replacing the electronics. I don't know if the SLRs have a type of input port like most cars today that lets the tech plug it in and diagnose. Models are replaced so quickly that it probably makes more sense to do a quick diagnosis and then replace chips/circuity boards. I wouldn't think it would be cost effective for a third-party repairman to try to have diagnostic equipment for each of the camera makers unless it is a big operation.

Yes, you are right Mike.
The EP-2 is worth the repair.
