My new rangefinder had a rattle and the rangefinder window only went part way.  So with my statue of Dean in the window and incense burning I cracked it open.

Top removed exposing rangefinder

Back with inner lens plate removed exposing focusing works.

Top view of mechinism showing the brass slider that supposed to hold the lens.

Rangefinder removed, I had to remove the whole deal to get the brass slide out.

Slot for the brass slider.

Top view if the slider mechinism

Brass holder that's supposed to have the lens in it.

Mystery rattle, the lens.

Slider removed.

Slider back in place and yes I had to chase that spring about 8 times.

Back in place showing the adjustment screw.  I adjusted it in my house because it was late late at night.  I used another rangefinder and checked it at 15, 10, 5, and 3 feet.  I hope it's right.

Michael, glad you got it going.  What you need to do is check it at infinity.  Then everything else should be right, assuming the lens is correct at inf in the first place.

Now you can sell it for $639 and buy a semi truck load of Silettes

So it isn't cemented in there?

LOL dean I probably could with the one on Ebay going for 700 bucks.  I'll check it at infinity today now that it's daylight.

Yes Mike it's cemented in the brass slider thing.  The glue from 1957 gave up the ghost so I had to redo it.  While I was in there I went ahead and did what little CLA I know.

What did you use?  Epoxy holds the strongest but you had better position it correct before it sets, assuming positioning is critical here.

There is good advice below - use an acetone soluble cement in case you ever need to repeat.

I did use epoxy, it's all I had.  The good news is in the tray you could see exactly where the lens was glued before.  I just put it is the same place it was and glued it down.  The rangefinder adjustment is very easy to get to so if I have to change it it'll be easy.  I hope.
