When I am posting messages, there is a note on the screen under "Options" saying HTML is ON.  What does that mean?  Are some html tags allowed?  The FAQ is not specific on this issue, and it appears that some things may not show up in the preview mode.  I sometimes like to include some non-breaking spaces as paragraph indicators or for clarity, but I don't want to clutter up the forum with experimentation.

I'm also unsure about the possibility of making a link without showing the actual or literal url.  The URL tab is handy, but if the address is very long such as in most references to ebay, then you get a line which stretches past the right margin of the screen and every subsequent posting to the thread has to be scrolled back and forth to be read.

Mostly, I like this forum software quite a lot in the way that it presents information; it seems to enable exploring topics in a more interesting way than the pn software permitted.  The ability to preview and edit posts is also a big plus.

Mike - briefly...

HTML code on means the forumware will interpret the code. If you paste in a URL, you needn't use the URL containers - HTML CODE ON means the URL will be automatically clickable.

Now, if you have one of those lengthy URLS, then eithergo to http://tinyurl.com/ to make a tiny one out of it or use the URL containers to condense the URL that is visible to readers. If you do the latter, I suggest you mouse-over the URL button above and follow the syntax for the second option, the one that uses URL= - then use LINK or something similar.

Here is an example of what I mean re: the latter option. Quote this post of mine and you will see the syntax in your message box.

example:  This is a LINK to tinyurldotcom using the latter method described.

Also, HTML ON means you can use HTML to format, ie for tables, etc.

Thanks, that last part was the main thing I was looking for.  I'll play around with this stuff in this thread, so people can ignore it if they are not interested.

This link should go to my site.

I live in Doña Ana County.

It appears the system accepts numeric entities, but not named entities.

I thought that I had seen a centered image in a post, but I don't see how to do that.
I suppose one could just use leading spaces, but it takes a lot to get there...

Mike, I don't know about the centering. You could locate the specific post and I can check the code to see if any tabling done. Speaking of tables, this post of mine is constructed using tables. I have this text on the left in one tabel-cell, an image in another cell, and then a second row containing the same data, only reversed positions.

Hmmm... interesting. I coulda swore this software would allow my HTML. Nothing seems to register, not even swapping <> for [] containers.

Yep, I tried the table thing too.  It seems to like some html tags ok as long as it is the numeric code for special characters, but not the named entities.  So, " +;" is ok, but not "" .
I also don't understand the use of the "Code" button.  My expectation would be that it would show the literal code rather than the html interpretation, but the preview shows a white box similar to the "Quote" function.

Look at what CODE does. Acts like a quote container, treats everything you post within it accordingly. See my previous for example.

Also, I have to set all allowable html tags in the forum config. I've done this with basics, but it does not seem to be taking hold. I'm trying to mine information from the phpbb home forum, but search returns null for TABLES HTML and I query for TABLES, it gives me tons of unrelated.

Still digging.

Oh yeh, today's my birthday, so I ain't a-digging too hard.

Ok, maybe.
Here is some code with the code tag around it:

Oops!  That pushed the whole thread over onto the right side of the screen for some reason.  Think I'll just let this rest for a bit.

Yeh, ok wiseguy. Smiley

Ok, I can render a basic table now. I don't yet know how to wipe out the top margin. Nothing seems to be removing it that I can think of. More later.
