I was foolhardy enough to bring an old Land camera to the Neko Case show this weekend. I met another guy there with a neat Rolleicord+flash setup. I wish I had gotten flashbulbs, as the pictures were quite dark, but I'm sure Neko's glad I didn't. All in all, I like the effect, though they aren't the most admirable bunch. Camera Neko Case More to come, just haven't uploaded yet. By the by, if you don't know who she is, check her out. I like to describe her as country-noir. She has the kind of voice that you never forget, and the songs won't let you down either.

Aaah, a 350. I'm very happy with mine. Now, if you had a 180, with its f/4.7 lens, you could have gotten much more reasonable shutter speeds -- but that might or might not have improved the photos, and you'd have needed a meter.

Actually, I almost bought a converted Pathfinder today on ebay, but the price got away from me. I imagine that would be a decent alternative to the 180.

Here are the othe two Polaroids I got from that show. Neko again: The opening band, The High Dials, who were a great choice to open. Very high energy and good songs. Ironically perhaps the best photo I got that night.

I think she dropped the "Boyfriends" but it's the same person. She's been spending some time with the New Pornographers out of Vancouver lately ... http://www.thenewpornographers.com/ Very talented young lady. I saw her at Bumbershoot a couple of years ago in Seattle ... dan

Those are wonderful. Well done. You were up against some big odds using Polaroid..in the dark...with an auto...and no flash...in uncontrollable temp....
Brave..very brave.
Keep getting out and using those Polaroids!

Wow, I love that one of the opening band. The movement is beautiful, like brush strokes.
You should send these on to the band, I'll bet they have nothing else like them.

I have her new album. It reminds me a bit of Iris Dement in a certain way. The album is very even - I wish she had mixed it up a bit. Half way through I feel like a need a shift in tone and temper. I am guessing that live she has more of an ability to do that. You should shoot more concert shots. These have a nice atmosphere. Plus with that camera, you are perfectly in tune (sorry, pun accident) with the alterna-everything that is required. To paraphrase a guy I used to know, chics dig big Polaroid cameras. BTW, two albums to rec - Wilco's Kicking Television and Gomez' Out West. Both are live albums that reveal a more energetic side to bands that on studio albums are a bit more, well, studious. How's that for alterna-everything? J Ake

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I may try it with flashbulbs next time I go to a concert.
Jorn - I actually am really in love with her new album; it stands out as quite balanced to me. I suppose it's more refreshing to me since all I've been listening to lately is punk and pop, a la Futureheads and Magic Numbers.
Live, she was actually not as high-energy as I thought she might be. Much more laid-back and cool, which was a very different experience than I'm used to. Not that there weren't a few rockin' numbers. Holly and I really enjoyed ourselves.
I'm going to be at Lollapalooza this year, which has an incredible lineup of bands. Neko will be there in her other band The New Pornographers, along with many of my favorite bands right now. The question for you guys is - what camera(s) do I take? I may need a longer lens than the Polaroid will afford me, I doubt I'll be next to the stage like at these concerts.

I don't know, the Polaroid might be kind of cool for taking photos of the crowd. At that venue, I'd be more apt to do that than photograph the musicians. (but that's me). You've got a nice grip on that Polaroid, I'd love to see the results.
135mm attached to a reliable 35mm camera maybe? 50mm? 25mm?
