Done with the Exakta.  A few more pics, for those here interested
in that kind of thing.  Fun job! Smiley

The old wrinkled up, holed up, cracked up....messed up curtains.
Ready for a vacation, fer sure, dude.

The new #1 curtain, waiting to get to work.

Number 2 in place checking for fit.  Comes back out, and #1 goes under it.

The deed is done Cool

It's a beautiful camera, with lots of dials and stuff to keep the gearhead happy.

I was lovin' it, but I had to send it back to it's owner.  All's well that ends well...

Nice Dean - I have to brave a Contax D doing the same job.  Was it hard to cut the curtains nice and square?  If they are cut on an angle, the exposure won't be even!

Hi Mike;

I cut the edge off the curtain material with a straighe edge, and used a small metal machinists square to get a good 90 deg end.  The hardest part was reattaching the spindles and ribbons so they roll up square.  Had to do the ribbons on the #2 three times so they would wind up true.  Otherwise they want to "travel" up the take-up.  If at first you don't succeed...and all that jazz.

Good luck on the Contax.  How's the Prontor coming along?

Gee, that's a pretty camera. I love dials and stuff. When it comes to working on focal plane shutters, though, you be a braver man than I.

Still waiting for a self timer.  If the one you sent doesn't work, I'll just omit it.

Very neat work Dean. Do you use scissors or a blade to do the cutting Dean? I find that a scalpel + steel rule is good for cutting out curtains. I don't think I could make em straight using scissors. The material you used looks quite funky with the peel-off backing on the rubberised side.

Cheers

Scissors aren't worth a hoot for cutting curtain, for me at least, Wayne.  An Exacto knife with a new blade works great.  I also use a straight edge.

That backing isn't stuck to the curtain.  It's more like textured kitchen wrapping, and the pattern on the rubberised side goes away in a few hours.
