Searching for digital black and white conversion techniques I came across the web site of a Brooklyn photographer named Eliot Shepard, who mainly does very, very good color work.  (Is there a term for this?  Ironic Feeling Luckiness?  Beneficial Mis-Googling?)

I like his work a lot.  He's obviously good at finding interesting/slight weird people who will let him photograph them.  :-)

I found an old manual flash and, during my daughter's naptime, tried to duplicate to some extent this guy's style, with the strong off-camera flash, if not his subject matter.  Wink

Nice cat shot. I have looked at that site before. I think I found it through Jen Bekman's gallery. The abilities of some people with flash astounds me sometimes. I just don't understand it. I mean, I understand the principles, but I don't understand why when I apply the principles, it always comes out looking like crap and not cool fashion photography.

There is an easy answer to this, but I prefer to exist in a state of denial.
