I shot this with my Retina IIa the same day I was exploring the Farm and Ranch Museum in Las Cruces with the pinhole.  This was done on Tmax 100 and processed in Tmax developer.  I've made several versions, and am not completely comfortable with any of them.  I'll appreciate any thoughts on the composition.

I really like this. My only comment is that the background pillar takes away from the symmetry of the photo. It would be nice if the background was a consistent tile set like on the right side. Otherwise, maybe darken the background with a reduced exposure?

The object itself and the shadow are a good subject.  However, the background (pillars) mess things up.  The shadowed paving slabs and their lines could possibly be incorporated though.

Maybe the viewpoint needs to be different - more from above, squarer on, end on,  from the other side?  I'm not sure, as I can't see what else is around it.

This is one of those areas where I know so little about art and the abstract that I'm hesitant to join in. I would likely walk right by this and not even see it as a potential photo, but that's my shortcoming. Maybe I can learn something just by throwing out my response.  

I like the white curves, might be some sensuality or something there. But their shadow does not mimic the shape of the original closely enough to please me. I mean, the shadow could be longer or even shorter and that would be okay as long as it was more closely related to the original object. Maybe a different angle or different time of day?

Thanks for the feedback.  Sometimes when you work too long with an image it just turns your critical faculties into soup.  I did make a version with a tighter crop which made the background less prominent.  However, it seemed to me that produced an image that was too austerely abstract.  My goal with this image was to tread the line between abstraction and realistic depiction.  Apparently, there is some lack of needed resolution in the conflict.
    Ah, well, time to move on.  There's an annual street fair starting up today in Las Cruces, and next week is the county fair.  I'll go armed with at least the pinhole and a tlr.
