I have been looking on the net the past week and the only scanner (new) I can find that does 4x5 is the epson's. Is there others? The Epson 4990 is out of stock in the Epson Canada site but they still have the 4990 PRO but running 599.99 to 799.99 each. I will be trying my hand at 4x5 and would like something thats not going to bust the bank.

HP makes a model now with a tranny unit in the hood that looks to be good up to 8x10.

The online reviews I managed to find for that HP scanner are not too enthusiastic, to say the least. Sad

If your requirements stop at 4x5 neg. size, Microtek might be an option.

I have Microtek ScanMaker 6100 (an older model), and it works just fine - from 35mm to 4x5 inch B&W negs. But, 4x5 is the max negative size Sad
If you can find it, it should be pretty cheap by now (when I saw it last - a couple of months ago - it was priced at less than $200).

I've been eyeing Epson 4990, but it's too darn expensive - about $850 where I live Sad

So, my scans are limited to 4x5. Anything larger gets contact printed Smiley

I've got an Epson 3200 you can try a scan with if you want to bring a negative.  It should give you a pretty good idea what the 4990 is capable of.

I would love to get the 4990 for digital ICE - dust spotting SUCKS.  I often feel like I spend half my life spotting dust.

AFAIK, Epson 4990 is THE scanner to buy if you're into large format (4x5 and 5x7).

I thought the 4990 was disco'd .... they have the new V series out now. The V700 and V750 ... Both are supposed to be excellent but a little pricey Cheesy

Just looked up the V700 on the vistek site a it looks pretty nice. It's sitting right between the 4490 and 4990 in price point at 659.95 can. Now it's the squeeze time of save for a Shen-Hao field camera or the V700.

If you can wait a while, Mitch, I would suggest you wait until the V700/750 models have been out for a little while.  I bet then you will start seeing the refurbished 4990 models showing up on Epson "clearance" section.  That would be a better price.

Hm...never mind...the Epson Canada's clearance "centre" has a sucky selection compared to the Epson USA's clearance "center".

I have a 4990 that does 4x5 and mf pretty well. The scanner is better than my ability to use it.
