So, it's my date of birth coming round all too quickly again and my dear partner has asked if I would like a book or mag subscription. "That's sounds lovely" i thought. Then, faced with having to make a decision about what exactly, I could go no further.
So, suggestions please for a photo mag ;
I live in Uk and currently take B&W [uk]. Have also seen Lenswork in print and CD which is quite nice.
But how about others; Ag ? etc.

I prefer B&W, older cameras, use 35mm, 6x6, 6x9, 5x7, glass plates, POP paper, Epson R1800 and am trying to master contact printing on 'proper' printing paper.

I prefer 'the image' and the making of the image - in camera and out more than the cameras themselves.
Hope this helps

One of my favorite besides lenswork is Aperture. http://www.aperture.org/store/magazines.aspx

These are available in the US, but I am not sure about UK:

Blindspot is (still) good though they just lost their founding editor, Kim Caputo, to cancer. Seems to be a bit of a hiatus going on, though fairly well filled by a tribute issue. Caputo had a lot of friends in the photography world, and most of them contributed images to that issue.

Art on Paper is really a sleeper. Meaning nearly no photographers I know have ever read it, yet it frequently has some of the best photography articles going. Of course, it also includes drawing, printmaking, painting, etc. but the cross-pollination is refreshing. Frequently features historical process photography - pinholes, POP, salt-prints - primarily because of paper's status as a multi-media base.

Contact Sheet is run by a non-profit organization called Lightwork. Their magazine features work down by grantees associated with that program. Hit or miss sometimes, but good to look at to keep up on what's what.

Shots magazine is a labor of love put out by one guy who lives in Alaska or something I think. He does no color reproductions, just black & white, but the images are always interesting, most frequently film-based and medium format.

I also get Artforum magazine for some of the same reasons I get Art on Paper. Cross-pollination. Lots of photography in there, plus a regular listing of what's at galleries and museums around the world. A great resource.

Happy birthday, btw. And many more.

The UK Outdoor Photographer is quite good, and concentrates on locations in the UK.  For that alone it may be worthwhile.  I have seen a reasonable mix of Digital and Film based articles in it (used to get in when we were in NL).
