Hey, everyone -

After all the previous posts on the pre-war Isolette, I took it on vacation to California last week.  Didn't shoot near as much as I'd intended (usually went out for short walks, which turned into very long walks), but I burned a roll of NPC in Sonoma and a roll of Neopan 400 in San Francisco.  Haven't gotten the NPC developed yet; the Neopan turned out pretty nice.

The Bay Bridge from somewhere around Lombard:

Coit Tower from the curvey part of Lombard:

My wife waiting for the California line cable car to get moving:

Turns out I'm a little unaccustomed to tall buildings in big cities:

Had a frame left when I got home, so I took a kid-shot:

Fun trip, and the camera worked fine.  It's always a learning experience using the Isolette;  there are so many things to check and to do before taking a picture, that I always seem to forget something.  I'm glad as many of these turned out.  Hope the color pictures worked ok, too.

Thanks for looking.

Nice images. The lens seems to be performing, as well as the eye behind the lens!

I visited San Francisco last June but took just a digicam.    What a place for city landscape.

Great shots... the Iso is looking good! My office is one block east from that Banana Republic store. Where did you stay, Scott?

We actually stayed at the Fisherman's Wharf Hilton (gotta love those Hilton Hhonors points!).  Got down to Union Square on Friday, walked around there and Chinatown for several hours, then walked back to Lombard before catching the cable car back down the hill.  My calves still hurt.

Beautiful city.  Everywhere you look, there's something to shoot.  Stupid leaving the rest of the film in the hotel room... :x

Nice shots, Scott. I used to live there. Did you like how cold it gets when the fog rolls in? That took me by surprise!!! Brrrrrrrrr..........

Lili, you know what Mark Twain said:  "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."

Ha! We lived in the Mission District up by Bernal Heights.  Low rents and we got to look down from our sunny perch on the foggy rest of the city nearly every day.
Glad to see you took the Isolette; really nice shots.  Nice to see that much of the city remains as it was, even if I can't afford to live there any longer.

Oh yeah, that's a good workout, Scott!

Funny, we're in a late Indian Summer here... temperatures were in the mid- to high-70's. That'll last another week or so.

But thanks for posting the shots... good reminder to myself that I'm lucky to be able to live here.

Nancy, I think that may have been Oscar Wilde; it surely wasn't Mr. Clemens.  He had been to Minnesota, more than once.  Still true, though; Frisco is actually colder than Seattle, despite being 800 miles south...

Thanks, everyone.  It was a fun trip, and I'm glad I was able to use the Isolette a little while we were there.  Really glad my distance estimating skills are improving, too, though the buildings are pretty easy to guess on.

Thanks again,
Scott

Yes, there is some controversy over whether he actually said that or not, and if he did say it, he was probably speaking of Paris.  I don't think it was Oscar Wilde, though.
