This is the postwar f/4.0 85mm Triotar for the Contax rangefinder. Not a bad lens, and if you can put up with the slower speed, I think you'll find that this lens performs very admirably.

Here's five shots displayed using the SimpleViewer software.

Film was Agfapan APX 100 (Rodinal, 1:50, 15.5 min, 74F).

Good stuff- glad to see you got SimpleViewer going... makes nailing up a page of images a sweet process.

Mike, I know you have advocated me getting this lens before.  Its certainly an option vs. the large and heavy 85/2 Sonnar.

The photos are very nice, but SimpleViewer displays them way too small IMO - hard to see the lens qualities/defects then. Are there some other size settings available ?

Makes me be impatient about the 4/135 CZ Sonnar for Contax RF I just grabbed for less than $60.00 and which is in the plane over the Atlantic...

What I found with SimpleViewer is that you can specify a max size, but if the photo is larger, it simply downsizes it (and not in an attractive manner). I'm still playing with the program a bit.

I made max size 480 pixels wide, but I think maybe just one or two rows of thumbs will give you more screen space. It's a cool little program.

It definitely is not for people running a screen resolution of 800x600 and certainly not 640x480.

Mike, I peeked at the script and you can set the maxsize - what you need to be careful of:

1) Make your masters - theimages you drop into the IMAGES folder on the server - pre-process those to be same width as your maxwidth. Make portrait-orientations masters 350 to 400px wide, no mas.

2) Understand that SViewer will crunch images if the viewer's browser window is less than maximum size. Maybe put a blurb at the link reminding folks to max-size their browser windows before viewing.

All in all, a neat way to put up images, quickly, and pretty good manner for protecting them from theft as well.

Thanks for the tip. It's a very cool little program. Just have to figure out the little ins and outs of it.

All quite nice, Mike, especially the fallen peaches.
I also like the way the Simple Viewer lets me see a compleat photo while the others are loading.  Nice for us dial up slugs!

Nice tones and contrast in those shots.  That is quite a bit of time in the developer; did you rate it at a higher speed in shooting?  Have you hit on a replacement for APX that you like as well?

I've just made several trials with SimpleViewer and I have some difficulties with the images max. size settings/actual display : is 480px in width the max it can displays actually (that would explain why it's the default setting) ?

Even if the image size is properly set to 640 px in width in the xml file, with the masters downsized to the same 640px in width before being dropped, they are still downsized (and badly, indeed) to what looks like 480px in width once online.

So, I tried to build up two galleries for the two cameras I just sold here (didn't know what to try SimpleViewer with).

In fact, the Contessa LKE gallery looks nicer ; pics downsized to 350px in width, and max size set at the same in the imagedata.xml file.

The Contax T gallery has a fuzzy look. Pics downsized to 480px in width, and max size set at the same in the imagedata.xml file.

About the settings (background color, frame width, text color, frame color), I used a blank FrontPage file to find the HTML colors codes

My opinion is that SV is a nice little program, but I'm left a little bit puzzled with that image size setting...

I was just doing the same to see how IV runs.  Nice and simple, but too simple if it offers so little control over sizing.  Even with the thumbnails down to 2 columns, the max width is the same.

Maybe that's why they sell the source code and the open Flash file - then you can do what you like with it.  But I didn't get around to checking the price.

I just got a not so bad result with 2 row columns and 500px in width for the images. See that trial.

The max display width may be 550 or 600, or 620, with 2 row columns - 640 being definitely not reachable it seems, unless you set the stagepadding at 20 instead of 40.

The navposition setting may be of some influence, too.

I agree with Sandeha - it's free, so you can't have everything... Cool

It's great to see great images made with just "three pieces of glass" : Cheesy

so much for computer designed optics, multi coating and 11 elements in 7 groups......

My 85mm f2.0 is great...but a burden in the bag when one gets use to travelling light.

see my note under the Werra post about how I dealt with SimpleViewer.

I've also changed the page here, so the link should work to create a pop-up window of a fixed size. If your pop-up blocker stops it, use the little text link.
