What you you folks like. I have a Canon I-980 that when it was working at top condition I loved. But now it has lines that are showing up now and then and not able to clean or get rid of.
So off to buy another but not sure what to even look for as I have not been in the market for a color printer in a few years. Saw a couple canon replacements that look good.
HP? Epson ? Throw me some ideas to go check out.
I want to be able to print at least 8.5 x11 and 4x6 easily.
Need good color quality and seperate tanks. None of those photo printer cartridge printers for me.

I'm on my third Epson 1280. I'm a pro and I work them hard. It's a dye printer but their archival ink printers can't match the range of this one. Downside: only prints on matt and Ilford Classic Gloss paper are archival. I love both of those papers so it's no issue. Ink is $16 for black and $22 for color at atlex.com.
After rebate at B&H: 269.95.
Prints up to 13x19. Great quality, simple, reliable. They may make a model of this printer that only goes up to 8.5x11" which would be cheaper.

The Canon printheads are replaceable. The price is usually about the same as a whole set of colour inks, and I believe the head comes with a set of colour inks.

The 1280 retails for $399. Perhaps you can find it for less.
I probably wouldn't buy a used ink jet. Once those heads start acting up, they never seem to be the same.

Yeah thought about getting a replacement head. I am just wondering if I should just get something newer though. The I 980 worked great for what I needed. But not sure I want to dump any more money back in to that or get something newer. Plus my wife has expressed interest in one that can read Cards.

I should correct, mine is the I-950 Hmmm. Found new print head for $50.
Still entertaining a new printer though as that one is a few years old and who knows.

I like my HP Photosmart 8250. Got it for less than $125. It does quite well for my needs. Has 6 ink tanks, 2 feed trays. In addition to USB, it has a place for camera cards, and selective printing from the cards. The Vivera inks and Advanced paper do a good job, and dry quickly. It automatically senses the Advanced paper in 4X6 and 8.5X11 sizes. It will print other papers as well. A set of six ink cart's and 150 sheets of 4X6 paper go for about $35 at Office-Max.
Just a thought...

Travis - get a Canon IP6000D if you can find one, it's next in line if not. Wicked fast, perfect for color up to 8.5x11. Won't print B&W worth a crap, but for color it's great. I purchased it after my Epson Picturemate went tits-up, no regrets.
The Epsons are great, but the next Epson I buy will be the 2400 once prices are in my range. It's still pretty 'spensive.

Still entertaining a new printer though as that one is a few years old and who knows. The newer Pixma's are nice, some even do auto-duplexing. Some of the models might even use the same inks.

Now If the missus weren't already chewing my arse for getting the Nikons and related attachments, I would be drooling all over an epson 4800 TANK BUSTER. Heck with 8.5 x 11 I could spit out 11x 17 all day long.
Why she thinks a new living room set would have been better spent than my D200 is beyond me.
I just need an all around good quality printer for prints. I do like to fool with black and white so.......

BH has that one for 199.00 Hmm if it wasn't freezing rain I would go grab it, Maybe. We're just back from buying groceries before the weather overcomes us. They're calling for 2" rainfall over night, then 2-4" of snow tomorrow, clearing mid-day, hard freeze over night, 4-5" of snow on Friday. People are freaked here. Been very overcast all day, then broke, and now the real show is on with a major storm coming on us, temps dropped 20degrees in the last hour it seems, very cold rain beginning to come on. Let 'er rip, I say. I've got red curry on! As for the Canons - good, fast printers. The 6700d should be fine. Grab one, but if what's coming over us is headed your way too, you might wanna wait it out. I'm happy with it, but I think the Okies are getting killed right now in the flats. C.

I use an Epson R220 which will print up to 8.5 x 11 and I have put a couple different brands of paper thru it. It has 5 color carts and one black and will also print on dvd and cd's. I also like to play with black and white prints sometimes and have used some carts from MIS inks that I was happy with though I need to learn a lot more about curves and profiles etc. Those inks were pigment based and there are also archival color carts that are pigment as well.
I think the dye based OEM inks are pretty good, and I like Epson's line of papers. I paid $99.99 for it at CompUSA in February and have been very happy with it.
