Handheld, 1/8 second, f22 and a push/pull zoom, maybe not good photography, but kinda neat artsy/fartsy effect.

Au contraire (on the "not good photography" part), that is superb!  All those motion lines converging like that, the colours - great capture, which just says it all about.... rally driving?  Anyway, it makes my teeth rattle, so it definitely conveys the feeling of the action.

I like it a lot. As Kai mentioned, the motion lines convergence helps a lot.  They first bring me to the racer's front end (Corvette, about 1967-that's important to me, being able to get enough detail to ID the make and vintage of the car), and then drawing me further to the left in the direction the car appears to be travelling.

Funny, I've had a push-pull zoom for years and never got around to trying this. I used to see this technique a lot some years back. I just have to know-was the car moving when you took the shot?

Yes, the car is at speed. Rocky Mountain Vintage Racers at Steamboat Springs, Ken Petri owner/driver 1967 Corvette 427. Tried the same technique with the cars coming straight at me, didn't work as well as the combo of panning/zooming across the field. Thanks for the positive comments.

I love the way the near wheels are bouncing in air, reminds me of a Snuffy Smith cartoon. The main character's feet seldom touched the ground in that series.

I'd forward a scan to Ken Petri - bet he'd want a print.
