Gearheads / the Classics / First few shots with Leica IIIc

As for the long scratch, if it's still there on the second roll, it might be caused by the camera. Hope not. I hope not too! Be sure and let me know if it is. Is the scratch along the whole film in the same position? When you have the camera empty, take the lens off and fire and wind a few times looking into the body. A problem with bottom loaders is that small bits of film can break off next to the top sprocket holes where the film leader has been cut, these pieces can get jammed in there somewhere. Keep me informed of any problem. Nice pics but very stong contrast as shadowfox pointed out, the harsh gulf light. Your seagull only has one foot!:)

491 sales and 100% positive. I think buyer beware is implied nearly anywhere. The camera is obviously not pristine, and the seller is pretty clear about that. What makes you worry any more than the average resale on eby? It's just this statement:" "I am not a Leica expert, I am sell a few cameras for a dear friend who recently passed away."
It's typical of a seller hiding something. I know. I've been on the receiving end.
Of course, I could be wrong.

We all get the bug eventually, eh?
I have the GAS to get an overhyped, hated, & quintessential Leica RF.
Is a budget outfit possible?
And of course, the glass. Everyone knows when they see a slide taken with Leica glass. I'm looking for a normal one, about 50mm?
Thanks! A budget outfit is possible if you go for a screw mount body, the most popular and common is the IIIc. You should find a good one for less than $300. Leica lenses are expensive of course, but with a IIIc screw mount you can start off with a russian Jupiter-8 or Industar-I61 (both 50mm) while you are looking for a bargain Leica lens. I have a spare Leica IIIc you could have for £250. Send me a PM if you are interested, or just want more info. If not I might put it up for sale here in a couple of days. Mabon.

Gearheads / Bigger Is Better / 124G Good - Scan operator not so good

William, at this resolution, those scans looks sharp. But if you notice some kind of softness (especially when it's uneven across the negative), switch from the film holder to a good quality piece of glass (sandwich the film, emulsion-down, directly against the scanner glass).
I did this recently and I notice better sharpness (film holders suck against non-flat negatives). I'm just starting medium format scanning, do you have any scanner focus or dof problems doing this? Normally the film holders hold the film a little way above the scanner glass, no?
