Beautiful!

Love the shadow detail in #8.

Spectacular, as usual.  I thought that "tree" was something rusted (yeah, it's a rusted tree trunk).  All very nice.

James

Great stuff - and I too was trying to figure out what that rusted thing was.  Some-sort-of-polymer-coated-serrated-threaded-tubular-no-its-a-tree?

What kind of tree is it?

I see you are carrying the torch for Scott, who seems to have left us for a while.

Scott's carrying on with his projects; he just doesn't post everything here at NFF.  His last camera-project update on his blog was Feb. 22 - when he got the new bellows for his Asanuma view cam from Sandeha.

And Taulen, I too am interested to see a pic of the "gear bolt/lever".

cheers!

Sadly, I'll have to pass on this one. Someone should grab it, great lens, great price!

Too late.  I just PM'd you Mark.  I got back from the store; someone bought it last night.

That was fast.

Very nice - especially the alley shot.

Anyone else have the same initial reaction to the juxtaposition of the phrase "7th grade" and the term "internet"?  ;-)

cheers!

Nice!  I particularly like the church interior - especially the reflections off the (marble?) sanctuary floor.

I imagine that's one of the best cameras you'll find for such unobtrusive shooting?

cheers!

Saw one of these at a local Sally Ann a couple hours ago; it has both caps and looks to be in good condition.  They're asking $20.

Here's a pic I found online

If anyone's interested, let me know and we can arrange something (recall that I'd be shipping from Canada - so keep that in mind).

cheers!

68  Gearheads / Heads Up! Guilt-Free HU-Zone / Mamiya Press Super 23 Camera w/ Extras - Shopgoodwill.com on: February 10, 2011, 04:16:56 PM
An interesting looking kit.  Has 6x7 and 6x9 roll film adapters, 50mm and 100mm lenses, a set of extension tubes, and other stuff.

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Vintage-Mamiya-Press-Super-23-Camera-w-Extras-7409924.html

It's up to $275 already, and the auction doesn't end until Tuesday.  Neat camera (especially 6x9), but there are a lot of MF cameras you could get for that money.

Hi Bill,
The first thing I noticed, after the revision, was cleaner scans from the SD IV. I haven't really dug into it for printing quality yet. When I upgraded (Huh) to W7, the patch to make the SD IV work was not reliable for me. That is when I bought the Professional (not that I am!) version of Vuescan. Interestingly, the update didn't seem to offer any improvement in the med frmt scanning on my V500.

Thanks Gerry.  It might be worth trying - for $40.

So did you go back to WinXP - or did the 'Professional' version fix the issues?  You had sent me the info for using the SD IV with Vista/Win7; I haven't tried it yet, as I still have an XP machine (slooow) that I use for scanning.

As for the V500 - it's definitely on my radar; by most accounts it's a good deal - though I'd swing a V700/V750 if I could, for the ability to batch scan more negs (I have a lot; the price difference between the two is huge - but everyone's time is valuable), and do larger formats.

cheers!

Gerry, what improvements have you noticed with the Scan Dual IV, using Vuescan, over its performance out of the box with the KM  software?

I ask because I'm just now getting into scanning - and am using a Scan Dual IV.  I am using the software that came with it - which I'm finding ok; however I find that I'm getting a fair bit of noise - especially in the shadows.  This is even when I use the 4x sampling.  Is this your experience?  If so, do you do noise reduction in another piece of software (or does Vuescan do this?).  I have PS Elements 5.0 - which I find rather non-intuitive - and Corel Paint Shop Pro PHOTO X2 (though I've yet to install it).

I'm just reading through some older threads/posts on the KM SD.

thanks,
Bill

Very very nice!  I especially like the little yellow flowers.  Nice choice of focus and balance.

The tree trunk in the next-to-last photo appeals to me.

Me too; love that texture.

And the chained doors too.

Great decision on focus in the 'died' one.  Nice.

Bill
p.s. how were you metering these scenes?

75  Gearheads / Heads Up! Guilt-Free HU-Zone / Re: Crown Assets auctions in Burlington, ON and Montreal, QC on: January 19, 2011, 04:05:07 PM
why the heck does the GoC own a Countache?

CADC - Crown Assets Distribution Centre - auctions off more than Canadian government assets.  They're contracted by other organizations - and even foreign governments who have assets in Canada that they wish to get rid of.  Recall the old police auctions; bicycles and stuff?  Well Ottawa Police don't do that themselves anymore; CADC does it for them.  Same with CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency [1]), RCMP, and others.  So perhaps the Lambo was a proceeds-of-crime thing - or maybe a taxman thing.  Last fall they sold off a 70's vintage full-race Porsche 911.

[1] Some of the border-area CADC offices always have crappy old US-registered cars that presumably someone tried to use to smuggle something in.  Lots of the listings say "back seat missing" ;-)

So you never know what you'll find for sale.
