46  Dude, I'm Geekin' Out Over Here! / Film & Darkroom / Re: New fun film on: May 08, 2012, 02:56:20 PM
Ya got me with that third blowup.  That's some sharp looking stuff!

maybe keep the rewind button pushed in for the duration of the rewind..?

Nancy, I think that is a good suggestion, until she can have it serviced.  As long as little rewind button pops back out when
new film is loaded and the wind lever cranked one cycle, this is not a major problem.  The problem you describe can happen
on most makes of SLR cameras.  If she doesn't mind holding that button in for the rewind, it's just a small inconvenience.

What could possibly be causing this?

What is causing it is usually a boring little ratchet that lets the take-up sprocket on the right side "free-wheel" when the
film is being re-wound.  That ratchet catches a cog in it's normal position, and releases it for letting the sprocket run
free to rewind.  It's probably a spot of dirt, or a piece of film perforation interfering with its operation.  Little bits of film
are often found floating around in the workings of the winding/re-winding works.  Sometimes they cause a mischief.

Seriously, my favorite Matchbox was my sixty-something baby blue Lincoln Continental.
My favorite one was my Unimog.  It had the trailer that went with it, too.  I had one of those suitcase
collectors boxes full of cars, and another box of them, all with the pasteboard boxes they came in.  I
suppose 40-50 in all.  Wish I had them now!  People pay silly money for them.  I gave mine away.

Really like that black Chevy wagon in the first pic, Rose.  You caught that one with all its teeth showing.
What a grille! Gosh, that's pretty.

As a child I collected Matchbox cars instead of dolls.

Me too!  What a coincidence.

And another red one. Dean- I hear red cars are good- for getting more tickets Wink

Yes, especially small red Italian cars with a solid Ford V8 stuffed into the middle.
Sounds like a lot of fun, to me.  Smiley

P.S. what scanner?
Oh, the worm has really turned.  We used to ask "What film?".   Wink

That Hudson looks good enough to eat, Rose.  What a nice one!  And the Desoto.. well, all red cars are good 'uns, right?  Smiley

Looks like a keeper to me, Phil.  You'll either get used to the medicated system of measurement, or you can
fix it proper with a Sharpie marker by writing on proper feet distances.  I've done that on a couple of old German
scale focus cameras.  The full meters aren't so bad, but I do not think in things like 1.5m or 1.7m at all well!
Looks like the bellows are holding up, and the lens looks great from the photos shown here!

That's some good shooting, Will.  I like these kind of people shots, especially where people are occupied with
their craft, (or role).  Gosh, the guy in the first photo is a magnificent and fearsome looking chap!
Well done on all of them.
54  Gearheads / the Classics / Re: "Ugly" Rolleiflex 2.8D (KEH Surprise) on: April 13, 2012, 03:45:59 PM
You really did well with that one, Joseph.  That fourth shot is simply beautiful!
I've bought a number of the "bargains" and "uglys" from KEH in the past.  Quite a few, really.
I have never got one that was as bad as the price implied.  The "bargains" are, and the "uglys" ain't.  Wink

Thank you Dean, that's a tribute for Paul (PC Headland) whose composition I like a lot and very symmetry-driven.  Kowa is louder?? now that I have to see...

Will, my brother in law and I were school buddies before he married my younger sis.  We were both photo/camera nuts.
I got the Bronica and went to his place to show him.  We wondered how that big ker-thwap would go over in the churches
where we often did wedding photographs.  A few days later he got his new Kowa 6, or maybe it was a Super.  Was in the
late '70s, so I don't remember for sure.  Anyway, he brought this large square camera over and tripped the shutter.  I think
that was the first time I'd ever heard the word "Kowabunga", which is what he said after the artillery blast shutter on the
Kowa.  I told him I didn't think people in church would mind my camera near as much after they heard his!

A couple of years later I traded the Bronica for a Mamiya C330, just to keep the noise down at weddings.  I kept that one
for quite a long time.  I also had three lenses for it.  I kept a Yashicamat in that kit too, just in case I ran short on time for
changing film.  Gosh, no wonder I have such back problems now!

I love that fourth shot, (the color one)!  Gosh that's nice, especially for a guy with a brain wired for symmetry.
A big Bronica like that was my first interchangeable lens MF camera.  Had two backs and three lenses.  I went
into debt for that one, back in the late 70's.  The only thing louder is a Kowa.  Wink

Thanks for the camera pics, Larry.  Looks like new!  Lucky indeed!

Dean I will scan them in the AM...  I had to let them flatten for a few.. why rush perfection. Smiley
Yeah, show what you took, but I mean show pictures OF your camera.

What a great buy, Larry.  I remember when the ME and MX first came out.  They were a sensation!
It was the at the beginning of the compact SLR craze.  My smallest SLR back then was a Nikkormat EL.

Show photos of your new camera, dude!
