Gearheads / SLRs | Rangefinders | Lenses & other for both / Canon FD Lenses To Look For?

I've been wanting to get an SLR for old times sake. Since I have a handfull of decent, if not spectacular & almost all 3rd party, FD lenses, I now have a FTb-N QL and a 50/1.4 SSC headed my way. While I'm somewhat familier with Canon's FD lenses, back in the day I had nowhere near the coin to actually buy Canon glass... These days, given ebay and the rest, it's a somewhat different story, though I still have only a slim budget to work with.
So I'm looking for which of the Canon primes people think I should be keeping my bottom feeder eyes open for. I expect to get the 50/3.5 macro in the not too distant future, but beyond that I'd enjoy hearing what other peoples favorites are.
Thanks!
William

The one with the bomb blast was for an airshow we did for a cruise with a bunch of dads and the discovery channel.
Even if you know it's going to happen it's still a B**** to get right. I think I still have the negs from a firepower display when I was an active duty tanker where _everything_ was just a moment off... (grumble SLRs... ) Congrats! William

Fun kind of thread. I can understand Raid's simplicity urge though I haven't gotten it to that point yet.
When I'm shooting my Canon 7, it goes out in it's Luigi case with two rolls of film in the holders he makes for the shoulder strap and the Canon 50/1.8 mounted. I almost never use anyother lenses on it. So no bag.
I've got two bags ready to go:
1) a small Tamrac bag Leica CL w/ Collapsible Summicron mounted & wrist strap. (Meter inop.) 90/4 prewar Elmar 50/2 Jupiter 3 40/2 Summicron-C Sekonic L-28c incident meter 14 rolls of various film (Tmax, Era, Plus-X, Fuji Reala) Pocket full of filters and accessories
2) a larger bag to support my Speed Graphic with 8 4x5 holders, my grafmatic (Tri-X right now), whichever two lenses aren't mounted (127/4.7 Ektar, 6 1/2"/8 B&L Rapid Rectilinear, & 8 1/4"/6.3 B&L Tessar in barrel) , and various necessary bits.

Blew the highlights out bad and the bracket safety shot well ummm did you know you have to pull the dark slide before you trip the shutter? The good news is the fixer cleared the negitive very well.
Yep. Another fun thing to do is pull the dark slide before closing the shutter after focusing... At least it wasn't a sheet of Velvia... Your scans look good to me, though. Thank you for sharing them. I'm going out today with a very old 6 1/2" Rapid Rectilinear - that should prove to be entertaining William

I just got done pulling my B&L Tessar off of a lens board and mounted the Rapid Rectilinear on it. Needs some cleaning but on T it seems bright right to the edges of the ground glass at f:8. Looks like this could be some fun. Now to go find the lighter fluid...
Thanks for the information about the f stops, BTW. That had me wondering as my only other older lens (1905 - 1914 ish) has the modern progression.

Sounds like you'll be having some serious fun. I don't have the 152, but I do have the 127 Ektar with the earliest coating and love that wide angle Tessar look. Just barely covers 4x5, but the old time PJ's weren't playing with movements either...
What film do you plan to shoot?

Gearheads / Bigger Is Better / Old Kodak Lens/Shutter on a Speed Graphic?

I have an old Kodak 3-A Model B-4 which is a folder from around 1905 for 122 film. While I've pondered the idea of making a 120 panoramic out of it, I'm thinking that the old B&L 6 1/2" f4 Rapid Rectilinear and it's ball bearing shutter could be more interesting on a Speed Graphic lens board. Has anyone here done something like this? Given the 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" postcard format I'm guessing that there should be enough coverage for 4x5. The shutter does T, B, 25, 50, 100 and while I don't have any way to test it as such, the speeds sound appropriate (IE, 100 sounds about as much faster than 25 as it should. Shrug ) Aperture is by iris from f:4 to f:128 (!). It actually seems like a fairly decent combination for it's time. Perhaps not as good as the B&L Tessar I have from just a couple of years later, but still not a simple box camera's meniscus either. Tips, hints, advice all appreciated. Cleaning tips for the seriously filthy glass too... Thanks, William

Yep, a Karat 36 w/ the 50/2.8 is a very nice camera. I used to carry mine all over the place till I made the mistake of buying a ZI Contessa 35 w/ that 45/2.8 Tessar ...
Sigh. It only gathers dust these days. Anyone want a Karat 36? I'll sell quite cheap if it goes to a good home.
