Gearheads / Point-N-Shoot, Pinhole, Polaroid, and Plastic Emporium / Yashica T3 Test

Thanks for the comments ! That tree is one of my favs so far. I had it printed at 8X10 just to see how it came out. Suprisingly sharp. The shot of the sculpture at the top is the work of the famous Charles Umlauf. He lived and worked and taught here at the University of Texas in Austin. I felt that that shot showed the ability of the camera to meter pretty well in a tricky light condition.

Gearheads / Point-N-Shoot, Pinhole, Polaroid, and Plastic Emporium / Yashica T3 Test

The predecessor to the famous T4 with Zeiss f3.5 lens, is the chuncky looking Yashica T3. Just a little faster with Zeiss f2.8 on the front and the NA Scope on the top, which acts as a waist level finder. A happy find on *bay for $16.00 ! Here are some test shots produced with the T3 camera. I tried a roll of Kodak BCN also. An old Texas Swing Band tour bus @ The Broken Spoke dance hall, Austin,TX And a shot of a mural on the back wall of an Austin weird bar downtown. Thanks for look'n ya'll!

Gearheads / Point-N-Shoot, Pinhole, Polaroid, and Plastic Emporium / Olympus Stylus Epic

Hi Ronald, I have had pretty good performance from my Stylus Epic. I like to use ASA 400 or ASA 800 film in it. This usually makes the camera open up to f2.8. I just prefer the slightly oof background. I think the XA has more elements in the lens along with more over all control and manual focus. I'm like you, got an XA, XA2, & Yashica T3. One of them always leaves the house with me!

I got a 7 megapixel Canon A620 last Christmas. LOVE IT. Loads of features in a small package. Optical viewfinder, swivel flip out LCD screen & came with a printer! All for $229.00, however that model may not be around this year. Check out DPReview.com for loads of info on the digital front. Happy hunting!

Gearheads / Point-N-Shoot, Pinhole, Polaroid, and Plastic Emporium / Olympus Trip 35 with Kodak BCN

Keith, Great stuff posted here. Love those landscapes. I often use BCN also. Do any of your shots come out with the "orange cast" on them. I have shot some rolls that look great, others are almost ciepia looking. I end up running them through Photoshop 7 to get a true black & white look to the image. I sometimes wonder if it may be the particular camera that I'm using it in.

Will, Very nice images indeed! The Superia grabs those colors well. There is another Japanese Garden not too far that may be worth the trip for you. I was in St. Louis late last October. They have a pretty nice exhibit within their Botanical Gardens. Here are a couple from that visit. Charles I really like this place!

Gearheads / SLRs | Rangefinders | Lenses & other for both / Three Yashicas

Howdy Will, I have a varity of Yashica glass for my FX-3 Super 2000. The 50mm f2, 50mm f1.7, 50mm f1.4 , 28-80 zoom, & 70-210 zoom. I think the sharpest may be the 50mm f2. The f1.4 I just got off the *bay a couple weeks ago. I agree over all, the SLR glass is a tad soft. Here is an example of the f1.4 test roll a week ago. What do you folks think ? Was it worth the $76.00 bucks it cost me? I have read stories that the f1.4 was supposed to be pretty sharp.Almost Ziess-like. Charles

Thanks so much for the kind words Greg and Wimpler. Both of the RF's have been CLA'd and now use modern batteries. I used to have a GS but traded it to Iggers here, for a Zorki 4. I enjoy the FSU's but I missed the Yashica. So this time I got the GT. Always did have a thing for black cameras :-)

I have a small collection of Yashica cameras. The 3 in the top image are from left to right an FX-3 Super 2000, Lynx 14 rangefinder and an Electro GT rangefinder. Others include a 124-G TLR & a T3 point & shoot w/Ziess 2.8 lens. I have a lot of fun collecting and using these cameras. Great quality for a very reasonable investment. I am usually pretty happy with the images they make. Here are some from my last roll in the GT. So easy to use that rangefinder! This last one is my sweetie . Sometimes, she lets me take her picture ! Thanks for look'n ! Charles

What you said about 3 layer vs 4 layer film may be true. I am not sure most people can see a difference between them. I mostly scan the negitives any way. As far as places like Costco and Sam's, I will not pay a retailer a membership fee for the "privilege" of giving them my hard earned money. That is just my feeling on the "club" thing.
