1  Gearheads / the Classics / Re: 122 film, anybody??? on: February 17, 2012, 02:23:28 PM
This thread describes how I got 120 film into my 3A.  Worked well, though I was never too happy with the viewfinder and eventually sold it on.

2  Dude, I'm Geekin' Out Over Here! / DIY-ing to Try Something New? / Re: Two from the holidays on: February 04, 2012, 02:31:10 PM
Here's another I'm happy with ...

Yes, you're probably right, Paul, lens grinding is all that's left now.  Especially as I've just used up the last of my cherrywood and brass on this ...

But for the moment think I'll stick with readymade lenses, so if anybody has an old shuttered 175mm they're not likely to use again, let me know.  Wink

Julio, the viewfinder came free with some misty auxiliary lenses, from a Taron rangefinder.

Getting the front standard in perfect alignment is tricky, for sure, but the cam was designed for selective defocus shots.  What needs to be in focus can be done by eye.

5  Gearheads / the Classics / Walzflex IIIa, a simple TLR on: October 20, 2011, 12:55:08 PM
The Walzflex is pretty much a copy of a Rolleicord, but with a difference or two.  The Kominar is a triplet, but a damn fine one, and the coatings are Japanese which seems to make up for it not having a Tessar.  And it has a damn good fresnel screen which is very bright and easy to focus - even without a centre split.  In the US this was marketed as a Tower 65.   It's also cheaper in the current eBay market.  I paid £20 for this whereas a 'Cord would have cost £60-£80.

So a trip down to the docks again for a test roll.

The close-up shot is with #2 close up lenses.

Funny how the boy on the far left of this last pic is the only one looking at the woman in the beaded thong

Well, you should have seen what was coming from behind the photographer!

You were stuck in the middle again !!

Evidently a good place to be.  Cheesy

I can't remember the last time I saw some of your shots, Carlos, but these are great.  And two fine characters you have there.

Short of winning the lottery, your tour is possibly the only practical way to visit these places.  I went through Genoa several times but never to these parts of the coast.

'Perbacco' always struck me as a very old-fashioned term, one that I only ever came across in newspaper cartoons!  Cheesy

Just let me know when I become a bore and I will stop.

We're tough, we can take it.

Good to hear the trip was a success.

There are still more to add here from my recent trip ...

But seventy is probably enough to be going on with.
14  Gearheads / Point-N-Shoot, Pinhole, Polaroid, and Plastic Emporium / Re: The Pentacon Electra on: May 17, 2011, 01:22:13 PM
That's funny.  It's uncomfortable, none too pretty, awkward to load and only takes two film types.  Wow.

But the dog shot is a cracker.
