211  General / The Eyes Have It | W/NW / "Sugarfoot" on: September 14, 2006, 12:32:02 PM

this is one of the five wild kittens, who are honing their stunt work during September, I am foster homing the five for the OSPCA who are pretty full up with many sets of kittens, wild and abandoned.... she has two very light paws on her right side, thus Sugarfoot. Her calico sister, Cadbury, is darker.....I am still struggling to get shots of these gals, three black ones round out the team, with my Nikon 5700 and SB80DX camera, a not inconsiderable financial investment.

One trick I tried in the last bunch was to reduce the file size, since the shots were for web use, set the camera to shoot Continuous High Speed and this resulted in three flash shot bursts, some of which almost turned out. Still having trouble with AF being fooled and so on.

It is not the brightest of rooms anymore because three trees my family planted in front ot the room block most direct sunlight.  When I attempt non flash shots and boost exposure compensation by 1 or 2 stops I get stuck with some pretty slow shutter speeds 1/4 second or slower, even when I boost the ISO to 400. I can only imagine what people are trying to pull off with small kids and fleeting expressions. I would estimate I have taken close to 250 photos since the end of August and only five or six are worth a darn.

217  General / The Eyes Have It | W/NW / On a far shore ... on: September 08, 2006, 10:50:18 AM

my "front door" on the east end of Georgian Bay, which is the east end of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada......a few mornings ago - Nikon Coolpix 5700, minor adjustments in Paint Shop Pro 9...I always struggle with getting the darn horizon straight, trouble is the far shore is not parallel to my shore....it recedes further away to the right. Of course I am not sure how parallel I am to the horizon any more.
218  General / The Eyes Have It | W/NW / five feral kittens - another attempt on: September 07, 2006, 07:19:26 PM

This was taken with a Nikon 5700 and SB80DX, 100 ISO with the flash head at 90 degrees and the instruction white card pulled out for bounce. I probably overdid the image correction in software.  There are five of them, one of the calicos, Cadbury, has turned her head.

Partly as an experiment, I have set up a blog where I cite web sites or portfolios of interest that I bump into on the web.  Have a look and see if anything is of interest.

221  General / The Eyes Have It | W/NW / littlest of the five feral kittens I am foster homing on: September 07, 2006, 09:05:12 AM

three of the five are black and I am having a heckuva time getting a decent photo...this was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 set to 400ISO, bw in the camera, incandescent desklamp as the main light, handheld......mostly I am getting AF misses, exposure problems, been trying SB80DX flash and switching from matrix metering to center weighted, from program mode to aperture mode.....lots of misses

she is a sweet little thing....
