1  Gearheads / the Classics / Re: Retina II from Texas on: May 21, 2013, 06:24:26 PM
Julio, I'm glad you're happy with the Retina II!  As you know, this was not my camera but part of the collection of the guy who was shutting down his photo lab.  I did own a IIIc for a time, and was impressed with the sharpness of the lens, but I didn't use it very often and sold it last year sometime.

I did discover that a right-side wrist strap allowed full control of the camera and one-handed shooting, so that might be your solution as well to the ergonomic challenge.

Your pictures are excellent.  Thanks for sharing!

I had an Ansco Viking that I bought from a fellow NFfer, it had the stuck focusing ring, and like a fool I used pliers to break it free (not rough, just enough pressure to do it), and I ruined it -- ended up selling it "as-is" on the 'bay not long after.  Sad

That reminds me, Julio, I need to work on the bellows of my Viking 4.5.  I take it the Record III had a wider shutter speed range?

If you'd like to try out a Bel-JacTM, Phil, just let me know.  Smiley

Apropos of nothing at all, I received yesterday a 1935-ish model Kodak Six-20 folder, made in Germany, with a Kodak f/4.5 Anastigmat Lens and Compur Shutter, which highest speed is 250.  But the bellows, which I take to be original, are still soft and supple and appear to be light-tight.  Man, those Deutschers, could they build cameras, or what?

You ol' banty rooster!  Looking as good as ever!  Thanks for keeping this tradition alive, the birthday self-portrait.  I know I didn't do one for myself the past 3 years or so.

Beautiful, Julio!  And I second Will's request (hint, that is) for a portrait of your dad's camera.

Philip, as the adding machine once said, you can count on me!

Wow, what a place to live!  That Goose Creek Valley pic is so gorgeous.  It reminds me of where I used to live in Scotland.  Excellent shots, Phil.  Really pretty stuff.

Boy, I'll say.

I'll say, Julio -- it's a real performer.  That first shot of the two boats could have been taken close to the Corpus Christi marina, what with that stone seawall in the background.  Very nice work as usual.

Nice work, Will.  I do like the stick pic.  That looks like an Ent from Middle Earth.  Smiley

Yeah, I tend to live vicariously thru your camera repair jobs, Phil, so I hope you get to workin' on that one soon.  Smiley

Thanks to Mike E., Mike K. and James.  I knew I could count on some of you to comment.

Here I've been somewhat of an absentee for months, mainly because I've had nothing new to show, not much to contribute, and when I come back it's like I was never gone....Sad

Somebody's (OK, it's me) gone in and changed the name of me topic!  Vandals!

Thanks, Phil!  I've got this "beauty" (or perhaps beast) in my camera bag this week.  I did the alteration on Saturday.
