Hi Raid, I'm no critic but I would like to say that I really like the bird photo. However I question the inclusion of the area outside the frame on this and a number of your other photos. I find this artificial and distracting...

Raid, this is a very nice set of images. There are portraits, landscapes, architecture; color and B&W, and -I believe- several different camera types were used.

Of the many possible elements, IMO your compositions seem to be based on lines, and I believe you value sharpness because lines are important in your style.

There is a nice use of DOF in several shots. I get a feeling of isolation, warmness and intimacy from several of these images.

Raid,

I love the brilliant striated color bands in "Pensacola Beach", but was distracted by the dust on the slide. Assuming it wasn't your intention to leave the dust on the slide, was it your intent to use the dark OOF slide frame as a "psuedo" frame? (Related to JohnR's comment).

On to the good stuff. I must tell you Raid, that I have really enjoyed your shots of Dana. She's such a lovely subject. I recall seeing them some time back and thinking, "That must be fun". Now, as a first-time grandfather with a 17-month old grandaughter, I know the answer. YES it is fun! Your photos of Dana were a "heads up" that a delightful photographic subject was about to come before my lens. Thank you!

My preference is to share images of my grandaughter with family and friends in print form. Interesting to hear how pleased many people are when they see a B&W image of her. Some have said, "Oh, I LOVE black and white photos!" That's nice to hear.

Hi John,
[edited] I now understand what you meant! Yes, you are 100% correct. I should have cleaned up the scans. Now I have PS and I could remove the extra "dirt". Thanks.

Hi Julio,
I have a mathematical education, and I like shapes and lines to somehow be geometrically in harmony. Sharpness has its place, but I am these years also valueing overall photo impact even when at the expense of sharpness. Thanks.

Hi Andrea,
Dana is my princess and favorite model. She actually asks to be photographed, which sometimes scares me. She is very much at ease when I take photos of her. This one was taken at a window in her little room. I was experimenting with fast film and toning B&W images with PS.

Thanks.

An eclectic mix of subjects but all done very well.  The compositions all work.  A good use of negative space in 'Walking on Water', gives the feeling of isolation, and 'Joe Patty Seafood', the dark foreground offsetting the lighter subject area.  good placement of elements in every picture, nothing there that does not need to be and everything in place.

Hi Tom,

You are right about the distracting dust on the scan. I need to scan the slide again and use ICE and also dust off the slide beforehand. The slide frame should also have bene removed. Errors admitted!

I was 100% taking photos of landscapes until my wife and I got our daughters. Then I had to re-train. It is fun, as you have seen yourself with your grandchildren.

Thanks.

Hello Brian,

The mix is made up of new and quite old images, so it being eclectic is quite possible. Sorry about the dust.

Thanks.
