Ever get out there with your manual camera and find that either a.) your meter died or b.) you forgot to bring it with you? My hubby and I hiked to this hidden and very remote cemetery and I took my Rolleiflex only to find once we finally found the place (what an ordeal!) that my meter was dead. I was devastated, I'm not in the least bit experienced and I figured I didn't know enough about exposure to pull anything off. I decided to give it a go anyway and try my hand at the sunny 16 rule. I only shot a couple of frames but I'm fairly pleased with the results: This was in a field of high wildflowers leading to the cemetery. It was really windy but I wanted to give it a go and try to capture the feeling of desolation that surrounded the place. I kind of like the darkness: Do you have any unmetered photos to share?

I guessed exposure and shot this sideways with a Rolleiflex while "tinkering" with the camera. I didn't want to end up in the East River.

So where do you get these 'Sans' meters ... I've never heard of the brand but they seem to work OK. Is there an ebay seller maybe?

My meter hasn't been acting right, probably needs new batteries, so lately I've been using the "Ultimate Exposure Computer" to get correct readings: Seems to be functioning ok.

Erich, make sure you use the correct batteries for that computer. Just about everything I shoot lately is meterless. I get worried if I'm shooting C41 or especially slide film, but if my camera is loaded with Tri-X I don't even worry about it.

I love those 'sans' meters - I have a few , some work better than others.
I got cocky one day and walked around with my TLR and a roll of slide film, and one of the 'sans' meters - the one labeled 'Sunny 16'.
I was surprised at the number of keepers!
Nice job on the photos!

I rarely use a meter either, if I'm shooting with one of my "oldsters". Here's one from a Kodak Tourist. And one from a Zeiss-Ikon Box Tengor: This last one is (I think) from my FED-2 (but if not, it was still used with one of them Sans Meters): Good topic! Thanks Zen L. (and happy birthday!) Pete

Check out my Betty the Brownie thread. All sans meter (dead battery), not like I have much choice anyway with 2 apertures and 1/30 + bulb
