Oxymoron? Dunno, but one of our local reporters has asked to use some of my VietNam photos for an upcoming special. Figure about all I can get from NBC would be a warm and fuzzy. Any cash value in something like this? Or do I just act flattered and hand them over?

I doubt they're gonna want to pay to use 'em. However, be sure you get something in writing that spells out some exact conditions of use, pay or no pay. Number one: Make sure you retain all rights to your work. Ownership, copyright, etc. Spell out exactly what the conditions of use are to be, i.e. one time use, multiple use and how many times, etc. Make sure you get credit for your work. Get it in writing. Spell out a time frame as to how long they can have possession of your slides, with a date when they must be returned. There's always more legal mumbo and endless jumbo you can get into but these are basic things that they probably have a standard contract form for. Get money if you can. I'm not sure I would let that botch the whole deal, though. Last of all, deny everything..............::2yippee:

Some additional thoughts about this. They will be digitizing yer slides for the actual presentation. Time frame seems lke even more concern. It probably won't take 'em long to ge that done, so you don't want the things just sitting around the station getting forgotten. Talk this over with them. It may be wise to attach an insurance value to them, too, even though they are irreplaceable. I been away too long and forgot who's who. Is NBC 4, 7, or 9?

http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=86900 He was born in Can Tho, I was stationed in Can Tho, when they ran these little clips on the news I sent him a couple pics of kids in town. I think he may want to match up some location shots he took with what I caught in 69. Dunno, just started. He did say he was going to do a half hour special. Who knows, maybe I got some shots of his relatives.

If you don't want money, maybe you can convince them to donate some royalties to a veterans group? Kind of win-win - you appear selfless, they look like jerks if they say no

Damn, Kovacs... that's a bang-up idea.
Carmack, put them on the spot. They're only doing the story because it will make money for them to do so (attract viewers). They like to hide behind altruism, want you to play along with that, while they reap $$. You can still get with the ex-Viet and share pics.

Great Idea May I suggest The Fisher House. It is a place they build close to Military Hospitals for families to live while there loved ones are recovering from War wounds ect. http://www.fisherhouse.org/Larry
