I just received this through my subscription to the PhotoReview. I know there are plenty of Torontoers here, so:

"Ryerson University (Toronto ON) seeks an inspiring leader and global arts advocate with intellectual breadth, along with public relations skills for their new Gallery and Research Centre, home of the noted Black Star Historical Photography Collection and the Mira Godard Study Centre with its collection of fine art photographs. This role is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual to lead a Gallery from its inception, and contribute to the academic and arts communities.

The successful candidate must have significant experience in executing a strategic vision and must be a persuasive and sophisticated communicator who can represent the Gallery to the cultural community and to a broad range of stakeholders, partners and donors. S/he will have demonstrated gallery experience in an administrative role including exhibition programming, collections management, financial management of a cultural facility, successful grant writing and other funding initiatives.

This individual will have a personal passion and appreciation for photography, film, or new media and have the ability to sustain long-term efforts in promoting the school and relevant disciplines represented at Ryerson’s School of Image Arts and in the Faculty of Communication and Design. S/he must understand the complexities of operating within a higher education institution and possess a proven ability to inspire, motivate and provide leadership within a creative academic setting. An advanced degree, a record of scholarly publication record, and teaching experience in Photography, Film or New Media is a plus.

Highly qualified applicants should e-mail a letter of interest and curriculum vitae outlining experience and qualifications. Please note we will be accepting CVs and nominations until April 9, 2008, at the email address listed below. For a recent press release and further information, please see: http://www.ryerson.ca/news/media/.

That job is tailor-made for you, Jorn. Would you and missus ever consider leaving NYC? It's a great opportunity to start off with a brand new handsome building and a new program devoted to photography in an rich academic environment, IMO.

If not you, who else in Nelsonfoto will get an email off to Ryerson University? Remember Canadian dollars are stronger than the shrinking US dollar. Even Mexican pesos are stronger, IIRC.

Can't miss how many Canadians are here in St. Augustine this year. Super bargain these days. Come on down, Mapleleafers, the weather's fine and warm.

BTW, care packages are welcome down her in the lower 48.

Sounds like a great job for someone with the right qualifications.  Ryerson is an excellent school, I took my night photography classes there.  They have excellent facilities and it's right downtown at Yonge and Dundas, the centre of the action.  Plus, I believe if you work for Ryerson, you get free tuition.

Les, what kind of care packages are you looking for?  Maple syrup, poutine, beer that's actually drinkable?  ;-)

Nancy,

The job sounds like the beginning of a great career for the right person, but one must have the fund raising gene, which can be the most consuming part of the job.

As to my remarks about strong currency north and south of the US of A borders, I'm out of my element. Yesterday, after writing about Canada's dollar. I saw the differential was $1.02 CD vs $1.00 US. I may be all wet about the peso, too.

As for the poor Americans who winter in Florida, maybe the CARE package may seem over the top. However, there are plenty of my countrymen and women who are really hurting. For them, it looks like CARE packages from abroad may be their salvation. Their priorities are ignored, I mean their needs.

What is poutine? I'm all set on maple syrup and Canadian beer in Florida is inexpensive. Holland's Grolsch premium lager (brewed since 1615) is my current favorite beer, and is always on sale in St. Augustine.

Smiley yeah i had to google that one too some weeks ago meself when Sebastian Toombs ,i think, mentioned it
my impression was: hot ,great winter food and a coronary waiting to happen.sounds delicious:muching_out:
i understand it's a dish of chips(fries for you U.S. folks) and gravy topped with a cheese curd. (there are a few variations but that appears to be basically it)

If you've never had poutine, it's hard to describe.  We grew up eating fries with gravy, so to add cheese was no big leap.  Yes, it's very bad for you and very good, but you don't eat it every day, or at least I wouldn't.

Les, if you need things like inexpensive medication, I wish I could help.  I'd also send you some health care that won't put you out of house and home if I could.

Thanks Nancy and martolod for explaining what poutine is all about. I went a step beyond Google and got more than I'd ever expected to know about poutine at Wikipedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine  It's interesting to see all the variation that have evolved in eastern Canada.

I've been to Canada many, many, times, mostly to the Maritime Provinces, Quebec at least 5-6 times, Ontario twice and Alberta once. But I never heard of poutine, let alone tasted it. Thank goodness!

Sorry to report, but frankly, I know I wouldn't like it. I love french fries especially made like the Belgian and French do their small pomme frites. I like all sorts of cheese, yoghurt and even cheese curds and lots of gravies, but not the type they put on biscuits and a related dish called chipped beef, which we called SOS in the service. But putting fries, cheese curds and gravy together. Yuk!

Thanks Nancy for offer of cheaper meds, but I get what I need from the VA(Veterans Administration) medical benefits: $8/mo for the two normally expensive meds.

Yes, I know the Yellow Griffen and that's my local No Frills.  I took my daughter there once and we sat on the front patio and battled killer wasps.  Worst hamburger I've ever eaten, despite the fact that they advertise they have 1,000 hamburgers to choose from.  That poutine in the picture looks disgusting!

sebastian,

Your gevaulde poutine with chicken set my soft rhyming mind to work and I'm curious if they serve a similar dish up in the Quebec Laurentines. In particular, in Ste. Agathe-des-Montes,where there is a good size Hassidic community.

Claudia and I have passed that city en route to St. Donat-de-Montcalm, where we spent several summer vacations.  It's just outside Mt. Tremblant Park.

If they do serve a kosher poutine in St. Agathe, I'm guessing they call it oy gevalt poutine.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ste-Agathe+QC/?

Note: Click once on north arrow N in upper left of map and you'll see St. Donat. It is a big ski resort area, but we never went there in the winter.

I am finishing up My PR certificate at Ryerson at the moment, I have to look at the job description carefully though, I have a gut feeling they are looking for a very specific skill set. Managing the Blackstar collection would be really cool.

Yeah Moonman, I'm a Swansea girl, born and bred.  I grew up on Morningside near Rennie Park, do you know it?  I now live in a condo down near the Queensway.  I guess you and I should take some photo walks someday soon, eh?
