My son came over today to help me do some planting in my garden. He found a friend to play with. His head looks funny, and I don't know what kind he is, but his eyes are round and in Missouri that means non poisonous. Anyone recognize him?

We quit playing with him when I saw this poor sad face on the monitor recall.  BTW, he was about the size of a pencil.

I was going to say red-bellied snake, but Rose may have it better nailed down. Harmless and docile if either one. They stay pretty small. I am glad that you know how to recognize poisonous from non-poisonous and that you didn't go after him with a hoe. :2yippee:

Thanks everyone.  I guessed a Midland Brown, too.  But his head looks deformed, and he has those X's by his eyes that didn't fit the description.

He wouldn't have made a good lunch, he was barely an appetizer!

We live by a lake and have water moccasins.  As long as he wasn't one of those he can live in my garden all he wants, if he can just dodge my birds at the feeders!
