Betty makes it to the end of the world....

...just in time for Christmas.

Being well travelled, she's a bit loose and off-kilter, resulting in some light leaks due to a poorly wound roll. 

I took her for a walk around Wellington, with a view to snapping some typical Wellington Christmas scenes - NZ Christmas Trees (Pohutakawa), The Beehive, and the "M&Ms" wind sculpture (Wellington has a number of active sculptures, which are designed to move in our infamous wind).

Film was some expired Agfa Portrait 160.  I hope to find enough time to shoot at least one more roll, probably B+W, before sending her back home.

Paul, congratulations on getting some really nice stuff with Betty!  That light leak is troubling to me, as her owner, but I'll take a look at her when she comes back.

Meantime, since you're last on the list, please take a little more time and shoot a few more rolls if you get the chance.

The light leak is not from the camera as such, rather from the improperly wound film.  The take-up spool must have lifted on one corner, since the film had not wound straight on the roll.  Next time, I'll unload it in the dark bag, just in case.  It would be worthwhile having some sort of locater pin to keep the take-up spool square.

There are different types, from small to quite large.  They grow out as much as up and tend to have many trunks.  They grow pretty much anywhere, right down to the edge of the beach, clinging to cliffs.  Their roots will go everywhere, as I believe city officials in San Fransisco have found.....  The are nicknamed that NZ Christmas Tree as they tend to flower around this time of year.

Paul, take a look at Reed's recent thread concerning his own camera conversion to a panoramic folder -- he used some nylon bolts to hold his spool in place.  If you like, and if they're available in your area, see if you can acquire at least one for the take-up spool -- super glue it in place or affix it in some way and see if that works.

I'm a bit late chiming in, but still, wow, good job with Betty!  I'm glad to see the old girl can still work her magic.  That's some interesting architecture you've got there in Wellington.

Yeah, I really lost track -- I'd put in Wayne's Betty thread that I'd lost track of who had her, and it's Paul still, I think.  I had misremembered whether or not Paul had gotten her yet.  Paul, are you still having fun, or are you ready to ship her back home?
