I wonder whether the 12MP camera is still worth $150 with a one year warranty.
Is there anything out there that is somehow better at this price level?
The camera allows the use of many lenses vi adapters, and the perspective is sort of similar to twice the focal length for the perspective. Stil, this is a well made camera.

Would you buy it?

Who has an EP-2?

It would be good to get a back-up.

Raid, who is selling it?   I've got an E-P2 and I don't think I'm in the market, but I'd like to see what they are selling.

Cameta Camera is selling the EP-2 new in the box with a one year warranty for $249.
They are also selling the EP-1 (or EPL1) for $149 brand new.

Thanks for the tip.  I just went through their Olympus sales, starting at the lowest prices Smiley , and they've got a few good deals there.

12 MP with on-board image stabilisation for a couple of hundred bucks is really not bad.  And, as you say, you can pick up a decent adaptor ring now for almost any lens to use on the M4/3 bodies.  For fifteen dollars I bought a screw-mount adaptor for my E-P2.  Using old lenses, I do all the focussing which is exactly my style, and the camera calculates the exposure for me. And shows me the changes.  Sweet.

Mind you, I prefer to focus on the E-P2 with the eyepiece viewfinder -- that would add something like $200 to the cheapy price they offer for the body.

With all that said, of course, I use the E-P2 (or other digital) about 5% of the time I take pictures. The other 95% is with film cameras.

$150 for a new EPL-1
$200 for a demo EPL-1 plus 14mm-42mm zoom (one year warranty)

Which one to get?

That lens is good -- I have it as part of my E-P2 kit.  I suspect I'd choose the one with the lens (though, myself, I'd prefer they threw in a non-zoom since it'd be a faster lens) because then you can be sure there'll always be a lens on it.  Fifty dollars is not a whole lot to spend on that lens.

. . . Unless of course the demo looks like it's been abused.  Sad

When I got the EP-2 (the first time), I had the option between a 17mm lens and that zoom lens. I chose the 17mm lens, but it is not very sharp.

I just bought from Cameta Camera a black set EPL-1 plus 14mm-42mm factory refurbished, with a one year warranty for a total of $199 shipped to Pensacola. I called them. Their website states "out of stock", but that was not true.

Raid,

I love my E-PL1 with the kit zoom and an F mount adaptor. I picked up the VF-3 to use with it because I dislike composing on the back of a camera but it's a very nice versatile kit. 12 mp is more than enough for me and the jpeg quality is very high. The E-PL1 has the reputation as one of the best that Oly has put out.

The kit lens is decent but optically slow at f/3.5-5.6 so until I can afford native micro4/3 lenses, I've been using my pre-ai Nikkors a lot and getting good results with them. With the live view, it's like a mutant cross between a RF & a SLR & I've been enjoying it much more than I was afraid I would.

These https://picasaweb.google.com/118265923897175112372/Mar142012 are with the Nikkors. These https://picasaweb.google.com/118265923897175112372/EasterWeekend were with the kit lens.

HTH.

I have the adapters for Leica LTM and Rolleiflex QBM and also for TV lenses. They all work great. I was just recently thinking of getting an adapter for Contax G and maybe the Nikon F.

Thanks for the linkf for your imahes.

The black EPL-1 with 14mm-42mm zoom arrived today in the mail!
I used a charged battery with a memory card, and I tested the camera.
It works well.

Excellent!

A friend at work ordered the refurbished longer zoom (42 - 100 or so) for his E-PL1 from Cameta this week.
